Hope Line Organization,Uganda - East Africa

Hope Line Organization,Uganda - East Africa Hope Line Uganda is a local NGO that builds schools to provide free basic education to young children

Hope Line Organization focuses on the needs of women and children, including orphans. There are various projects that have begun through Hope Line (HL) to help these populations, including:

Hospital Project: HL has been putting pressure on the government to supply medication to the Kasubi Medical Centre, which provides medical services to people from the ten surrounding communities; HL is supervi

sing and helping to distribute medication and first aid to community members; HL helps to provide counseling and guidance to the residents of Kasubi Village on HIV/AIDS, family planning practices and public health issues. Public Health: Hope Line Organization teaches women and children about public health. The women have the biggest role in the health of their families so they are being trained through various seminars to reduce the risk of disease. Through their work, HL generally monitors and evaluates the health of women and their children. Education: Hope Line Organization aims to bring hope to the future leaders and citizens of Uganda through education, because education is the key to success. HL has been able to achieve this through the construction of needed education centres for orphaned children and children who are from financially unstable families. The education provided covers subjects such as health science, English and mathematics free of charge to improve children's mental capacity. There is currently two schools with 68-90 students and only 3 teachers at each school. Finding adequate teachers is a constant challenge for both schools. HL also provides scholastic material to the children and teachers while attending school. Women's Empowerment: Hope Line has helped to empower women economically, socially and traditionally though educating women about their rights both at home and in the community; through the creation and sales of arts and crafts as the women are extremely skilled in weaving and now have a small available source of income (HL provides the materials and organizes the means to sell the product); and, HL encourages women to engage in agriculture activities which has a ready market around the neighboring communities. In February of 2014, Hope Line will officially launch a Microfinance account for the women to take out small loans at a low interest rate in order to start a small business. HL will be there to support the women in this endeavor throughout the entire process. Agriculture: Uganda relies on agriculture and the surrounding villages deal almost solely in agriculture. The role of HL in the agriculture sector is to organize farming groups to include women and children; to educate about better seeds and farming methods; to educate about improved ways of caring for their crops by introducing modern farming methods; by teaching the dangers and advantages of different fertilizers; and by providing seeds to the farmers. Hope Line Organization is still in the early stages of development. Although there have been great successes since the conception of Hope Line, there are still many challenges to be overcome. We invite international volunteers to join our mission to bring education, development and hope to the incredible women and children in the rural communities surrounding Lugazi, Uganda. Ambassadors of all sorts are welcome as Hope Line is thriving with the support of innovative participants, local partnerships and even the smallest of financial contributions.
