Its intention is to avail independent research findings to influence public policy, and advance justice through research, technical support, demonstrations and advocacy. CJSI is a recognized knowledge–based institution providing high level technical insights into the Justice, Law and Order reforms; implementing demonstration programs in the area of gender and child justice and advocating at local,
national, regional and international levels. We serve as a source of independent research findings for the Ugandan Justice sector aimed at influencing public policy in the administration of Justice. For the past two years, CJSI has dedicated efforts to ensuring that the Justice systems play their role in protecting the rights of, and serving the needs of children. The Justice For Children (J4C) Program, which launched in July 2011 is a Justice Law and Order initiative, implemented by CJSI and funded by UNICEF. To date the program has directly benefitted the lives of hundreds of children, both victims of crime and those in conflict with the law. The J4C program operates in 16 districts across Uganda and ensures improved access, better services and better protection by the justice system for all children. The primary beneficiaries of the J4C program are Ugandan children and the principle aim is that children at risk of, or victims of, violence and those in conflict of the law will access holistic, child-friendly services that address their vulnerability and protect their best interests.
