BACK GROUND INFORMATION OF GATES OF HAPPINESS AMINISTRIES-UGANDA

Gates of Happiness Ministries-Uganda is a nonprofit community based organization established in 13-march-2013 by Mr.Alengo John, a man who had no happiness from his childhood up to late twenties[27 years].He is the current president of the CBO. THE BIOGRAPHY OF THE PRESIDENT

ALENGO JOHN

Born in Bukedea District from a peasant family of late Osire Cathebert and Aimo Janet in 1984 in Uganda-East Africa. In 1992, at the age of 8 years, the rebels attacked our family at night. In this attack, my father [Cathebert Osire] was shot on the right hand. He grieved with too much pain and the second bullet was added direct to his stomach and this was the first time I saw the human being`s intestines protruding out from the stomach. I witnessed the innocent brutal death of my Dad, he was left necked and I saw the un digested food we had eaten during supper profusing out of his intestines where the bullet had shot. At this time, he was defecating pre-maturely and grinding his teeth, and then at last he had his last breath on this earth. My mother was brutally beaten, her rights abused and her last baby of one month was stoned down but God protected him, he has just finished his advanced level of education this year. Iwas poured paraffin on the head and the hair was burnt; I never expected to have hair again but God is great, I do have fertile hair as per now. My mother being single, managed to educate me up to primary seven [p.7].I can`t forget of the experience of my p.2, when my mother was threatened to be killed because of land issues and she ran away. She left me [Alengo John] 10 years and my elder sister 12 years of age suffering all un usual conditions a total orphan could face. During my high school, the cousin brother of mine gave a supportive hand but still I had to work in people`s gardens to supplement my fees and other scholastic materials. I always dreamt of becoming a doctor but due to financial consequences, I couldn`t afford going for further studies though I acquired good grades in high school. After my failure to advance in my education, I looked for a job; but being have baked, I managed to get a job of an askari, keeping people`s residences and property at night in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Life wasn`t pleasing, I suffered all kinds of mosquito bites, snakes and all the un favorable weather conditions of life. By this time, Iwas 25 years old, so I opted for Jesus Christ whereby I could address all my problems to him. After receiving salvation, the lord Jesus collected my lost happiness for the past years. My first application requesting for a vacancy in security in the government of Uganda was successful. I was absorbed and officially appointed by the public service commission of Uganda as a security guard under health section. Being a security guard, my duties were stipulated only night hours which created abundant time of looking for a part timing job during day. With the high school certificate, I got courage to try teaching since I trusted my brain. I applied one of the boarding primary school [Kyanamukaaka Day and boarding primary school] as a class room teacher. Later I was called for interviews which Jesus Christ helped me to pass in grade A and emerging the best among the applicants. The School director officially appointed me as a full time teacher instead of a part timer as requested in the application. I honored the appointment and began running two offices daily i.e guarding at night and teaching during day. With the experience from year2011 till now in teaching, am now a teacher capable of passing students in division one [D.1]. I have two resting days in a week [during weekends] both at school and in the government job. I decided to dedicate these two days to Jesus, my turning point, I got involved in door to door preaching under the church group called “salt of the earth’ .Salt of the earth is a group of born again Christians who are serious in preaching the good news of Jesus Christ from door to door i.e. from person to person. It’s in this activity of preaching the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ, where I met a series of un bearable conditions which necessitated the opening of the CBO that would lay remedies to the un usual conditions of the community

A BOUT GATES OF HAPPINESS MINITRIES-UGANDA

Welcome to the extended family of people who are dedicated to bringing back the lost happiness of the local communities of Bukedea district and Uganda at large. Gates of happiness ministries Uganda [GOHMU] is a nonprofit community based organization which was established in Jan 2013 by mr.Alengo John, a man who had no happiness from his childhood .He is the current president of this community based organization. As the president was preaching the gospel door to door in the villages of Bukedea District in Uganda, He found so many orphans living with their grandparents. Their parents died as a result of HIV/AIDS and the rebel activities that claimed lots of lives. The elderly people could not support the orphans and the widows could not help themselves. He also found some families which although the parents were a live, but poverty was at the climax as a result of rampant wars in the area. These wars were caused by the hostile tribes called the Karamojong and the Jie who could regularly attack several homes at night, killing people, raiding cattle and burning houses into ashes .The recent attack of the rebel group led by Joseph Kony in 2003 had accelerated the rate of poverty in the district and eastern Uganda at large. This war displaced so many families, people of different ages lost their lives, school girls were r***d and boys were abducted, till now they are not seen .Refugee Camps became homes for the survivors and the government plus other private organizations were at a task of providing refugees with food and clothings.Life was hopeless and people lost happiness and many regretted why they were born. This war led to high growth rate of poverty and the development of slum areas in the capital city of Uganda, Kampala. Figuring back to his biography of being an orphan at the age of 8 years, the pain he went through with a single jobless mother and the obstacles he met in his education……….,deeply he felt the pain of these people`s suffering. This stared the thirst his heart to start up a community based organization that would help these captives. He consulted his senior pastor for advice; the pastor told him this could be God`s calling…..he should pray for it. he prayed for it and began helping some people especially the ones who were admitted in hospitals his work place. His earnings could not meet the demand of these people and this forced him to call a community meeting for help .This meeting comprised of religious leaders, political leaders, local and community members .We jointly came up with a solution that a community based organization called Gates of happiness ministries-Uganda, should start up in order to bring back the lost happiness to these captives.
