⚠️ Even the most progressive refugee systems are under pressure. Uganda is proof.

Uganda has long championed “African solutions to African problems,” hosting nearly 2 million refugees with a self-reliance model. Yet, despite its inclusive framework, the system faces severe strain:

Funding shortfalls threaten food, shelter, and healthcare
Donor attention shifts to new crises like the Gulf conflict
Resettlement quotas and humanitarian resources tighten

This illustrates a persistent inequity in global refugee governance: countries in the Global South bear disproportionate responsibility for crises often driven by geopolitical conflicts far away.

The lesson is clear: progressive refugee policies require sustained international support. Uganda’s experience underscores the urgent need for equitable burden sharing and predictable, multi-year financing.🔗 Read the full article here: https://thecfma.org/gulf-conflict-shocks-and-the-future-of-refugee-governance-insights-from-ugandas-refugee-approach/

Uganda is quietly redefining what refugee leadership looks like 🌍

Nearly 2 million refugees are not just sheltered — they are empowered. With the right to work, move freely, access land, and integrate into national systems, Uganda’s model proves one thing: inclusion works.

This isn’t charity. It’s strategy.

When refugees become participants in the economy and society, communities grow stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable. This approach aligns with global frameworks, but more importantly — it delivers real impact on the ground.

But the model is under pressure.
Funding gaps. Donor fatigue. Rising global crises.

The lesson is clear:
Refugee governance succeeds when inclusion meets international support.

Uganda is showing the world that protection and development don’t compete — they reinforce each other.

Access to the internet doesn’t always mean inclusion.

From our recent study, we found that many people are “online”… but not able to fully participate in the digital world.

Why?

Because digital inclusion goes beyond mere connectivity.

It’s about:
✔️ Being able to afford data
✔️ Owning a device
✔️ Having the skills to use it
✔️ Feeling safe online

For many communities, these are still major barriers.

So the real question is:
👉 How can we narrow the digital gap, which mainly affects women and PWDs?

It’s time to go beyond access… and make the internet affordable and safe for everyone 🌍✨
