Throwback to where it all began 💫

This photo takes us back to our very first upcountry event—a milestone that shaped who we are today.

In March 2004 (27–31), we had the incredible opportunity to support the Joint GOU/Donor Technical Review Workshop in Mbarara, hosted by Directorate of Water Development (DWD). We were young, eager, and determined to deliver excellence—long before we had the systems, structure, and experience we have today. What we did have was commitment, teamwork, and a strong belief that there is nothing that we could not do.
Looking at this moment now, it’s a reminder that every big journey starts with one bold step. That first upcountry event opened doors, built our confidence, and laid the foundation for the many successful upcountry events we’ve delivered over the years.

To everyone who trusted us at the beginning—Thank you.
And to every young business starting out: your “small beginning” matters more than you think.

As part of Women’s Month, I was glad to interact with a wonderful group of women last week at the American Centre, Nsambya, during an activity organised by Ms. Irene Mutumba, Founder and Executive Director of PEDN.

PEDN is a social enterprise that works with young people on education reform, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment in Uganda. Their programs include school savings clubs, financial literacy training, entrepreneurship and business skills training, vocational and life skills training, and youth empowerment programs.

During the discussion, many women shared real and challenging experiences about balancing work and personal/home life, and how sometimes one area suffers while trying to grow the other. These were honest and important conversations that many women can relate to.

I was particularly impressed by the commitment, dedication, passion, determination, and resilience of the women who shared their journeys. Despite the challenges, many have continued to work hard, grow their organisations, support their families, and create a positive impact in society.

Women are truly strong pillars in our homes, workplaces, and communities. When women are empowered, communities grow.
