A journey of strength, one mother at a time

Meet Tina a mother of preemie twins.

There was a time she couldn’t even afford transport to take her babies for their routine reviews. Holding her fragile newborns, the future felt uncertain.

Through our manna/nutrition program, Tina received the support, guidance, and encouragement she needed not just to care for her babies, but to rebuild her own stability through savings.

Today, Tina stands strong. She runs her own grocery stall, earns an income, and is able to provide for her children with dignity.

As Mother’s Day approaches, we are reminded of the strength, love, and resilience that define motherhood—especially for mothers of premature babies who begin their journey under the most fragile circumstances.

At Tulia TenderNest Home, a program of Mama Tulia Ministries, we provide a safe, nurturing transition space for mothers and their premature babies after hospital discharge. For many of these mothers, going home immediately is not an option. They face challenges such as limited support, unsafe environments.

At just 19 years old, Zakiya had already endured the heartbreak of losing two preterm babies. Then, at only 6 months and 1 week into her third pregnancy, she gave birth again this time to baby Eseza.

Eseza arrived weighing just 1kg. Her start to life was fragile and uncertain. As if prematurity was not enough, she was also critically ill and diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), Stage II, a condition that threatened her sight and required surgery.

Through Mama Tulia, Eseza received the life-saving surgery she needed and it was successful.

But survival was only the beginning.

Zakiya, with limited financial means, could not afford the specialized care and environment required for Eseza’s recovery. That’s where Tulia Tender Nest, our transitional care home, stepped in. We welcomed both mother and baby, providing a safe space, consistent care, and the support needed for healing and growth.

Today, baby Eseza weighs 2.46kg a powerful testament to what compassionate, continuous care can do.

Before every ROP treatment, we recognize that it can be an emotional and overwhelming moment for every mother. The uncertainty, the worry, and the deep love they carry for their little ones make this journey incredibly personal.
Today, as we escorted mothers for treatment, our social worker took time to sit with them—offering reassurance, listening to their concerns, and guiding them through what to expect. This was after they had already been carefully briefed by the ophthalmologist, ensuring they understood the procedure and its importance.
These moments of counselling are just as vital as the treatment itself. They provide comfort, build trust, and remind every mother that she is not alone on this journey.
Care goes beyond medicine it is also about compassion, presence, and support.

At Tulia Tendernest, every moment matters 💛 We invest time in both mother and child because we believe every preemie deserves the chance to stabilize and thrive. Today, our social worker guided preemie mums through Kangaroo Mother Care—showing the power of simple, loving skin-to-skin connection.
Even more special, the wrappers used were made by fellow preemie moms—a beautiful reminder of shared strength and care. Together, we nurture every tiny fighter 💕
