Hello friends of Bees & Trees!

You might be wondering why we’ve been quiet, but behind the scenes we’ve been hard at work.

Last year, we began a meaningful collaboration with Centenary Bank. This year, we are proud to be building on that foundation together.

With their generous support of UGX 9,000,000 and strong on-ground leadership, we worked with 50 smallholder farmers in Wokukiri Village, Mbale district to plant 3,000 trees last week.

We planted a diverse mix of species including Grafted Mangoes, Grevillea robusta, Cordia africana, Markhamia lutea, Papaya, Terminalia superba, and Spathodea campanulata. These trees will restore degraded land, enrich soils, provide food, and create sustainable income opportunities for farming families.

Even more beautiful, nature is already responding to the trees we planted last year. Dragonflies, butterflies and bees are flourishing, reminding us that restoration is not just about trees, but about bringing entire ecosystems back to life.

We are deeply grateful to Centenary Bank for their continued partnership, trust, and leadership in advancing climate action and community resilience.

We’re now looking to partner with more organizations and individuals to scale this impact, reaching more farmers and restoring more landscapes.

Let’s grow this together 🌍

Over the past two weeks, we had the privilege of joining the Chevening Alumni in Uganda to deliver sustainability trainings in seven schools across Kampala, focusing on waste management, tree planting, and environmental stewardship.

It was nice to engage students in conversations about the work of Bees & Trees with farmers and to introduce our new book, Saving Bubungi: A Buzzing Adventure, through fun and interactive sessions.

By connecting young people to practical climate action and storytelling, we are nurturing the next generation of environmental champions.

We are also excited to announce that a free digital copy of the book will be published next week — stay tuned!

Last week, we were honored to host visitors from Compound Eyes, who came to learn more about our work and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Together, we visited several farmer-led projects, including coffee agroforestry systems, beekeeping enterprises, and woodlot establishment initiatives. These visits offered a valuable opportunity to see firsthand how farmers are integrating trees and sustainable livelihoods on their land.

We also explored the incredible biodiversity of Mount Elgon, gaining deeper insights into the ecological treasures the landscape holds.

This preliminary visit will help inform the design of our future collaboration focused on protecting and restoring biodiversity while strengthening community stewardship of nature. 🌿🐝

Uganda’s Green Leaders Take on Web3 🌱

On 14th February 2026, while much of the world exchanged flowers and chocolates, 15 young environmental leaders gathered in Kampala to explore something different; how Web3 can support environmental action.

This was Nature Guild’s first-ever in-person event in Uganda, brought together by Bees & Trees 🌳 🌳, Youth Leading Environmental Change (YLEC Uganda), and Climatica Foundation, with support from GainForest.Earth.

From crypto skepticism to setting up digital wallets and exploring results-based funding models, it was a practical, honest conversation about both the risks and opportunities of Web3 for climate work.

Hello, friends of Bees & Trees!

We hope you had a restful break. We’ve missed interacting with all of you over the holidays!

While we have been busy getting our hands dirty in the field, we are thrilled to officially announce that we are open for work and back at our desks.

We’re returning with more passion than ever to restore landscapes, enhance biodiversity, and support the incredible farmers who make it all possible.

Proud moment for our community: is exhibiting at the Food Security & Nutrition Marketplace 2025, hosted by the Common Ground Project in Kamuli.

Michael was an early beneficiary of the Bees for Hope project, which later evolved into Bees & Trees Uganda. Today, he’s selling honey produced from beehives distributed during the Nature-Based Solutions Challenge by ; a tangible result of farmer-led restoration and enterprise.

If you’re in Kamuli, please stop by to support Michael and fellow farmers.

Over the weekend, our team joined the Kampala Bee Run, hosted by our friends at .

Beyond the miles, this was about community, youth groups, and runners all coming together to celebrate the small creatures that sustain our ecosystems and food systems.

At Bees & Trees, we pair awareness with action: planting bee-forage trees, supporting beekeepers, and educating young people about biodiversity.

Thank you, Marafiki, for convening a powerful platform. If you’d like to get involved, partner with us to plant bee forage trees, sponsor a hive, or stock locally produced honey and coffee.

Together, we keep pollinators and communities thriving.

We are happy to continue our collaboration with Kuehne+Nagel—this time supporting rural youth in Mbale District to kick-start coffee agroforestry and beekeeping enterprises.

With the right starter packs and performance-based incentives, young people can be powerful agents of landscape restoration and climate action.

Grateful to Kuehne+Nagel for believing in young people & powering this work.

On 10 October (National Tree Planting Day), we planted 3,000 trees with Centenary Bank to restore a 5-acre site degraded by sand mining in Wokukiri Village, Mbale District.

Ms. Annet Nandelenga, Branch Manager – Centenary Bank Mbale, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability and financial inclusion.

Our MD, Stephen Bright Sakwa, thanked farmers for embracing agroforestry and announced survival-based incentives powered by the Hypercerts for Nature Stewards initiative.

When sourcing seedlings, we are always intentional about buying from women.

Why?

✔️ Buying seedlings from women contributes directly to closing rural gender income gaps.

✔️ Quality and care – in our experience, women-led nurseries pay close attention to watering, shading, and tending, often resulting in healthier seedlings with higher survival rates.

✔️ Inclusive climate action – ensuring women benefit from the restoration economy strengthens resilience and shared ownership of conservation efforts.

By choosing women as our suppliers, we’re not just purchasing seedlings—we’re planting opportunity, resilience, and fairness.

We said our 2025–2030 strategic plan would put rural youth at the center of incentivized climate action — and we’re doing exactly that.

Grateful to the partners who are backing this vision.
