Rotary Club of Kampala Ssese Islands is a vibrant, fun loving and community oriented club. The club boasts of 70+ members with an average age of 40. Whereas the club is based in Kampala, its community projects are geared to assist remote fishing communities in Ssese Islands. The club mainly offers health, education, safe water, sanitation, and income generating services to rural communities.
Although Ssese Islands are beautiful, well endowed and a tourist destination, the residents lack basic services due to transportation challenges. Ssese Islands is made of 84 small islands in Lake Victoria in Uganda. The largest island Bugala, is 32 miles across water to Entebbe.
The Island is connected to mainland by a ship which plies that route once a day. However, some communities are inaccessible except by canoe (boat) over long distances. Over the years, the club has partnered with several international Rotary clubs to bringing basic services to remote Island communities such as the Rotary Club of Carse Starling, United Kingdom and US based Rotarians from District 530.
