Haven for African Children

Haven has evolved in a few years as an NGO by promoting, family reunification, affordable formal education/skilling and advocating for children’s rights.

We Provide Holistic Support and Care to the Unreached children and communities through Education, Health and Football for development enabling them be who God intended them to be. Haven for African Children (HACH) is a Non-Government, Non-profit Organization with a Christian foundation giving haven/refuge to homeless and compassionate care and empowerment to vulnerable children not only to survive but to also thrive through social support including family reunification, formal education and skilling of teenage girls and young mothers under and advocacy for children’s rights in Uganda. Haven operational mandate is derived from the UN convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC), the African Charter on the rights and welfare of the child (ACRWC) and various national legal and policy frameworks including the Children’s Act (2016) Amendment, the orphans and other Vulnerable children (OVC) Policy.

There is nothing quite like an open field, a football, and a community gathered to watch. This is football for development in action, one of the pillars we hold close at Haven for African Children.

Beyond the game itself, moments like this teach teamwork, discipline, and confidence. They give children a space to belong, to compete, and to grow, both on and off the field. It is one of the simplest and most powerful tools we use to invest in the holistic development of the children we serve.

Every match played here is more than a game. It is a building block for character and community.

Happy New Month from Haven for African Children.

September is a fresh reminder that growth often begins with simple, faithful work. In this moment, the children are gathered around a harvest, learning the value of teamwork, responsibility, and sharing what the land has provided.

At Haven, we believe holistic care includes creating opportunities for children to grow in confidence, learn practical life skills, and see the value in working together. Every lesson, every shared task, and every act of encouragement helps build a stronger future.

Play is not a luxury, it’s a necessity for every child’s growth, happiness, and well-being.

As the saying goes, *“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”* And every child deserves time to simply **play, explore, imagine, and be a child.**

Through play, children develop creativity, solve problems, build friendships, grow in confidence, and discover the world around them.

When we create safe spaces and opportunities for play, we’re not just giving children something fun to do, we’re helping them experience the **childhood they deserve.**

There is something powerful about walking into a classroom full of energy like this. These are students at Kyanga, fully engaged, voices raised, hands up, eager to participate and be heard.

At Haven for African Children, moments like this remind us why education matters so deeply. It is not just about lessons on a board. It is about giving children the confidence to speak up, the space to be curious, and the belief that their voice matters.

Every child in this room is being given the chance to learn, grow, and become who they were created to be. This is what holistic, education centered care looks like in action.

Haven for African Children was honored to have TJK Foundation for the Giving Back and Climate Action Walk – Season 5 in Kyanga, Masindi District.

The community came out in full spirit,walking together, laughing together, dancing, and reminding us all what true togetherness looks like. From the energy of the Community Youth Walk to the trees planted for a greener and more sustainable future, every moment carried one powerful message:

Real change happens when a community chooses to show up for itself and for one another.

We are deeply grateful to the TJK Foundation team, Nyaka Global, community leaders, young people, and everyone who walked, danced, planted trees, and contributed to making this day a success.

Days like this remind us why community, partnership, and collective action matter so deeply in the work we do.

Together, we can give back. Together, we can protect our environment. Together, we can build a better future for our children and our communities.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the Giving Back and Climate Action Walk – Season 5 a memorable one.
