Autism Spectrum Disorder in Uganda
It is hard receiving the news that your child has Autism. It is even harder in Uganda where very few people know what about Autism and there is no parents center to connect you to other parents raising special ones.
In this day and age, many attribute Autism to be caused by witchcraft. It is a common belief that parents of children with Autism sacrificed their children to the “gods” so that they would become rich. Many also think it is a western disease only found among Caucasians or “bazungu” as commonly referred to in East Africa.
Autism Care Uganda is the first parent’s led organisation in Uganda. It aims to bring together parents and caregivers of persons with Autism in their journey to help their loved ones achieve their full mental and physical capacity.
We will scream aloud on every hill in Uganda until our voices are heard.
