The most dangerous thing we do to children is convince them their worth lives in a number.

What they believe about themselves will last a lifetime.

Last week our CEO walked into Kampala Junior Academy expecting to give a talk.

He didn't expect to walk out changed myself.

Rows of young faces stared back at me each one carrying a weight they hadn't chosen, each one closer to a defining moment than they realized.

But underneath the anxiety and the fear of results, there was something else.

Hunger.

Not just to pass exams.

A hunger to prove something.

To become something. To be seen for more than grades on a report card.

He came thinking I had something to give.

He left reminded that the greatest work isn't adding something new it's helping people recognize what's already inside them.

They wanted to be spoken to seriously. Not talked down to.

Genuinely engaged with about their goals, their doubts, their future.

One student asked how you keep going when the people around you don't believe in you.

That question sat with me long after I left.

Because not every child goes home to encouragement.

Not every learner has a parent who sits with them through the fear.

Some of them are waiting for one person to say: "I see what you're capable of even if you don't yet."

The impact showed up in ways I didn't plan for.

A parent later told me her son had come home and announced he was going to work harder.

He wasn't the type to talk about motivation unprompted. Something in that room had unlocked something in him.

Then a student found my number online and sent a message simply to say thank you.

That the session had changed the way he thinks.

He didn't owe me that message. He sent it because something real had happened.

That's what this work is about. Planting something in a young person that grows long after you've left the room.

Most schools are failing their students.

Not because of bad teachers. Not because of bad curriculum.

But because nobody is teaching kids how to think about themselves.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking to the P.7 candidates at Greenhill Academy Kibuli as they prepare for their PLE.

Looking across the hall, I saw more than students preparing for exams.

I saw future leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers.

And while academic excellence matters, I believe there is something equally important that every learner needs

I wasn't there to give them more notes.

I was there to remind them of something far more powerful than any syllabus.

We talked about goal setting.

Not vague wishes but specific, written, reviewed-daily targets that pull you forward even on the hardest days.

We talked about what it truly means to believe in yourself, especially when your environment hasn't given you many reasons to.

And then something happened that stayed with me.

The students started asking questions.

Thoughtful questions. Brave questions.

Questions about success, failure, confidence, and their future.

It reminded me of something I deeply believe:

Potential is never the problem.

Exposure is.

Many young people are capable of extraordinary things.

They simply need someone to help them see it.

One conversation.

One mentor.

As adults, we sometimes underestimate the weight our words carry.

Never underestimate the power of helping a child believe in themselves.

Not every child has a parent at home who coaches them through fear.

Not every learner has a teacher with the bandwidth to pour into their mindset.

They need someone to look them in the eye and say: "You are more capable than you currently believe."

To every headteacher, school director, career master, and education leader reading this your learners are sitting on untapped potential.

A single session, done right, can reframe how a child sees themselves for years.

You may never fully know the difference it makes.

But one day, they will.
