Today we officially launched the Busoga Economic Empowerment (BEE) Project.

This initiative is funded by Mission Alliance, implemented in partnership with The Uganda National Apiculture Development Organization, and monitored by Stroome Foundation.

This is a four-year project that will work with 1,980 participants, including CMSG members and Bonga graduates. Of these, 60% are women (1,188) and 40% are men (792), reflecting our focus on reaching and supporting women in our communities.

The project will be implemented in Luuka District, where we aim to improve the well-being of rural, agriculture-based households through practical and sustainable livelihood support.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us for the launch and to our partners for walking this journey with us.

Today, we gathered as staff at Head Office for an Easter service led by our Board Chairperson, Rev. Can. Justus Miwanda. In his message, he reflected on the anointing of Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew, drawing our attention to the woman often identified as Mary of Bethany, Martha’s sister.

He encouraged us to reflect on the importance of opening our homes and lives for God’s work. Referring to how Jesus, after ministering in Jerusalem, was welcomed into Simon’s house, he urged us not to leave ministry only to priests or selected individuals, but to be willing to receive and support those whom God brings our way.

Rev. Can. Miwanda also reminded us that sometimes, people in need come directly to us and we need to welcome them with the same openness that Simon showed to Jesus.
He went on to highlight the woman’s act of devotion, explaining that she brought a very expensive perfume, which she had intentionally kept to honor Jesus. He pointed out how she broke cultural norms by unplaiting her hair in public, touching Jesus, and kneeling at His feet, even though she was not the owner of the house.
He encouraged us to see Mary’s posture as one of humility and sacrifice. He emphasized that she poured the ointment on Jesus’ feet and used her hair to anoint Him, demonstrating deep love and total surrender.

Drawing this into our present context, Rev. Can. Miwanda urged us to examine our own lives, noting that many today struggles to give up even small comforts, such as distractions during prayer. He challenged us to identify at least one thing we can surrender during this Holy Week for the sake of God’s work.

He concluded by encouraging us to seek a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, reminding us that this relationship inspires true sacrifice. He prayed that the power of the risen Lord would cover our partners and us and guide us as we continue in service.
