Thrilled to share that we have officially launched our Media Mapping Report!

This report is the result of extensive research, in-depth conversations, and strong collaboration, mapping Kenya’s media landscape to understand how to engage, inform, and inspire action in support of healthier food policies. It examines how strategic media engagement can amplify advocacy for Front-of-Pack Warning Labels and comprehensive marketing restrictions, showcasing opportunities for impact through partnerships, storytelling, and targeted outreach.

The findings shed light on who is shaping the conversation, where stories are being told, and how they reach audiences - insights that strengthen our ability to work with the media to inform the public, engage policymakers, and counter industry narratives.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who shared their time, insights, and expertise to make this important resource possible.

Consumers don’t know what is in their food because they are unable to understand the food labels or consuming food without labels at all which deprives them of their right to information. Passing an evidence-based Front of the Pack Warning Labelling by the Ministry of Health will help consumers make healthier food choices.

Request for Quotations to Provide of Agroecology Related Services
Back ground
The Center for Food and Adequate Living Rights (CEFROHT) is a not-for-profit organization committed to envisioning a world where everyone’s right to an adequate living is realized. We apply a Human Rights-Based Approach to food, and related trade systems; addressing critical challenges such as food safety, and livelihood injustices. As part of our ongoing efforts to promote agroecology and healthy diets, we are seeking qualified service providers to offer healthy meals, eco-friendly accommodation, and conference facilities. These services should align with our mission of fostering healthy diets, organic food systems, sustainability principles, and supporting local communities.
Scope of Services
We require the provision of three key services:
1. Healthy agroecological and organic diets
The meals provided must consist of healthy, organic, and agroecological diets sourced locally from agroecology farms. The service provider is required to provide a diverse menu to cater for dietary preferences and restrictions with focus on promoting nutrition.
2. Eco-friendly Accommodation facilities
Service providers are expected to offer clean, comfortable, and eco-friendly lodging for participants and staff during meetings, dialogues and retreats. Facilities should be located within agroecology sites and should prioritize sustainability and minimal environmental impact.
3. Conference Facilities
The venue/agroecology site should include a well-equipped meeting space with necessary amenities; audio systems, and stable internet connectivity. Additional breakout rooms for smaller group discussions are highly desirable.
Deliverables
The successful service provider must deliver a comprehensive meal plan that aligns with agroecological principles, fully operational eco-friendly lodging, and conference facilities that meet the outlined specifications.

Submission Requirements
All interested service providers must submit a quotation that includes a detailed cost breakdown for the requested services. Additionally, the submission should provide a description of the facilities, including photographs where available. Providers should also include evidence of relevant experience, customer references, and a proposed timeline for service delivery.
Evaluation Criteria
Quotations will be assessed based on several factors, including adherence to agroecological principles, cost-effectiveness, the quality and suitability of facilities, and relevant experience. References from past clients will also play a critical role in the evaluation process.
Submission
Quotations must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM on 28th January 2025. Late submissions shall not be considered. Quotations should be submitted via email to [email protected] and copy to [email protected] with the subject line " Request for Quotations to Provide Agroecology Related Services."
Terms and Conditions
Please note that this Request for Quotation does not constitute a binding commitment to award a contract. CEFROHT reserves the right to accept or reject any quotations that may not meet the desired requirements.
We look forward to receiving your quotation and to collaborating on advancing agroecology and healthy diets.

06/12/2024

Over the years, Uganda has had no clear and functional regulatory frameworks (policies, strategies, models, and regulations) in place to alert the public about the excessive consumption of foods high in saturated fats, processed sugar and sodium that significantly propel the risk of NCDs and yet the country is constitutionally mandated to promote healthy food for the citizens. Additionally, there is currently no law or policy in Uganda prohibiting the food sector from promoting, advertising, or marketing unhealthy foods to the population. Similarly, Uganda currently has insufficient coordinated efforts to hold and support the stakeholders in the food and beverage sector to account to the consumers and as a result, the false or misleading nutrition labelling of food products at local market remain prevalent.

The above gaps make Uganda a susceptible hub for foods high in fat, salt and sugar since there are no restrictions on promotion and marketing of unhealthy food products. Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish an effective regulatory framework for Front-Of- Pack Warning Labelling (FOPWL) and restriction of marketing of unhealthy diets in the country. However, this requires the endorsement and launching of the Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM) that is evidence based with global recommendations of best practice that guard against food industry interference.

The NPM will also allow effective and meaningful consumer protection and promote healthy diets that will eventually contribute to the prevention and reduction of Non-Communicable Diseases while providing a legal justification for inclusion of evidence-based practices related to FOPWL and complementary policies, including marketing restrictions and school feeding policies in the food and nutrition policy.
