📢 FOLLOW-UP UPDATE: ENGAGEMENT WITH MR. LANRE BABALOLA (FCA)
Great Nigerian Students, Great!!!
Following our productive meeting with the CEO of Abuja Restaurant yesterday, 3rd August 2026, the ANSU delegation had an unexpected yet crucial encounter. We met with Mr. Lanre Babalola (FCA), Head of the Quality Assurance Unit at the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation, who is currently in Uganda on an official assignment to audit the Nigerian High Commission.
Presented with this rare opportunity, the executive leadership utilizes the moment to speak directly to federal authority agent about the pressing realities facing our student community.
During the engagement, the delegation raised direct concerns regarding the lack of financial backing from the High Commission. We made it clear that limited financial assistance has been a massive hurdle, directly restricting the association from executing vital welfare projects, student programs, and community initiatives for Nigerians studying in Uganda.
💡 INSIGHTS & REALITIES FROM THE OFFICE OF THE AUDITOR-GENERAL
Mr. Babalola engaged our team breaking down the financial frameworks and administrative processes governing foreign missions:
1️⃣ Budgetary Limitations of the High Commission: He explained that the High Commission is not solely responsible for funding student welfare and operates on a very little budget designated for student welfare. Because missions cannot spend outside their approved budgetary allocations, they are extremely constrained in providing direct financial aid, a reality further impacted by economic conditions back home.
2️⃣ Proper Channels & Objective Criticism: He advised ANSU to always approach administrative challenges with objective criticism and strategic foresight. Rather than expecting last-minute financial aid, the association must plan programs well in advance.
