The organization looks to support boys from the ages of 1 year to 18 years and male Adults who have succumbed to drugs/substance abuse, alcoholism, depression due to broken marriages, joblessness etc. Focus is on Street boys, orphaned and neglected boys, boys with absentee fathers, boys growing up with disadvantaged single mothers, boys battling substance abuse, s*xually abused boys, school dropouts, neglected boys and all manner of disadvantaged boy child. Over the years, there has been great neglect of the boy child and Men in Uganda as their welfare is ignored by many people and organizations, most of which have come up to promote the welfare of the girl child and women, leaving the boy child and men behind. In Uganda, it is MOSTLY NEWS when a girl child is r***d, neglected, abused, violated or abandoned, but it is NO NEWS when a boy child is r***d, abused, neglected, violated or abandoned. In Uganda it is news when a woman experiences gender-based violence or killed but it’s not news when a man is brutalized or killed in gender-based violence. There have been increased cases of s*xual harassment, abuse, neglect, violation, abandonment, substance abuse, petty criminal activities, increased alcoholism, depression and even su***de cases which end up unreported due to ignorance and limited forums which are purposed to support the boy child and Men. This situation has made the boy child lag behind regardless of the demographic and statistical facts on ground., as many people believe that it is only the girl child who is vulnerable, in danger, needs protection, attention, care and nurturing, It should be acknowledged that the boy child constitutes over 70% of the street children and criminal gangs and population in juvenile prisons in Uganda. It is in this regard that THE GENTLEMAN’S CLUB UGANDA was formed in June 2021 to fight for the welfare and social justice of every disadvantaged boy child and to enlighten the community on the need to give equal opportunities to all the children irrespective of their s*x.
