For young farmers, each season can bring new uncertainty. Rain may come later than expected. Tools and resources may be limited. Training opportunities may be hard to access. Market prices may shift without warning.

These challenges do not only affect what grows in the field. They affect income, confidence, food security, and the choices young people can make for their future.

This is why resilient agriculture matters.

At TYoFU, we work alongside young farmers to build practical skills, share knowledge, and support farming practices that respond to real conditions on the ground.

Resilient agriculture does not have to be complicated.

For TYoFU, resilience means helping young farmers build farming systems that can keep going when conditions change.

That includes three simple but powerful elements:

Adaptability — the ability to respond to changing weather, soil conditions, and market pressures.
Sustainability — farming in ways that protect the land and support long-term livelihoods.
Community strength — farmers learning, sharing, and growing together.

In Wakiso, resilience is not just a concept. It is something young farmers practise every day as they work to create more secure futures for themselves and their communities.

🌱 Resilience begins with opportunity

In rural Wakiso, many young people face limited access to employment, practical training, and secure livelihoods.

At TYoFU, we believe resilient agriculture can help change that.

Through hands-on training in regenerative farming, organic agriculture, aquaculture, and climate-resilient practices, young farmers are gaining the skills they need to adapt, grow food, earn income, and support their communities.

This is what our Resilient Design Series is all about: showing how resilience is built from the ground up — through knowledge, opportunity, and youth leadership.

At TYoFU, we believe resilient agriculture is not just about farming techniques. It is about helping young farmers build systems that can adapt to climate pressures, sustain livelihoods, and support communities through uncertainty.

This month, we are launching Resilient Design — a 9-month series exploring youth-led sustainable agriculture in Wakiso.

Through this series, we will share practical knowledge, local stories, and examples of how resilience is already being built in the field.

🌍 What does it take to build a food system that is both sustainable — and just?

We often talk about food systems in terms of productivity or efficiency.
But today, the real challenge is deeper:
➡️ Can we produce food without accelerating climate breakdown?
➡️ Can global supply chains be both efficient and equitable?
➡️ Can local communities — especially smallholder farmers — share in the value they help create?

At a time when climate change is reshaping agriculture and exposing structural inequalities, food systems have become a critical lens through which we understand sustainability itself.

They sit at the intersection of:
Environmental limits + Economic structures + Social justice

And the solutions cannot come from one perspective alone.

This Sustainability Seminar brings together voices across policy, academia, and grassroots practice to explore how more resilient and equitable food systems can be built — in practice, not just in theory.
