In Uganda, recently there has emerged a new form of gender based violence targeting women and likely to displace children- DNA testing. Due to the social economic challenges cropping up in homes, men have taken it upon themselves to do DNA testing without the willing participation of both children and wives.
As we know there are various reasons why the test may not match, such reasons are foregone as those at the centre of the tests are already emotionally charged. We have had issues where babies are switched at birth, but since the tests are only done against the father, such cannot be ascertained.
We therefore urge the general public to seek social psychological support before and after doing the tests, involve all the parties, rule out other possibilities of the results not matching and finally come to a mutual understanding that will not lead to displacement of children.

The DVA Coalition Retreat on movement building. Our engagement involved and centered around
1. Accountability- how a lack of accountability undermines work to address violence against women and girls
2. Review of the DVA coalition clusters and adapting new approaches to addressing violence against women and girls.
3. Male engagement- how to positively and strategically involve men in addressing violence against women and girls.
