Headline: A Blessed Milestone for Leer: Diocese of Bentiu Ordains New Deacon in a Historic Regional Gathering
Today, history was made at Leer Parish Church. In an event the likes of which has never been seen before in our community, a new Deacon was ordained and blessed by His Lordship, the Bishop of the Bentiu Diocese.
What made this day truly remarkable was the overwhelming show of unity. People traveled from all parts of the Southern Areas, with representatives and congregations arriving from all neighboring Counties to witness this sacred ceremony.
The atmosphere was one of immense joy and collective faith, proving that Leer remains a pillar of spiritual connection for the entire region.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Maj. Gen. Hon. Stephen Taker Riak, County Commissioner of Leer. In a moving address, the Commissioner noted that such an event—bringing together so many people from across different counties for a religious milestone—is a historic "first" for Leer.
He emphasized that the presence of the government alongside the church is essential for promoting the peace and moral guidance our county deserves.
During the service, the Bishop offered prayers not only for the new Deacon but for the travelers from all counties and the entire Leer community, calling for continued unity and spiritual growth.
The Commissioner expressed his profound gratitude to the Diocese of Bentiu for their ongoing commitment and for hosting such a unifying event in our home.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newly ordained Deacon. We also thank our brothers and sisters from across the Southern Areas for journeying to Leer to be part of this unforgettable day.
