LEER COUNTY COMMISSIONER VISITS FREE SURGICAL EYE CAMP AT LEER COUNTY HOSPITAL

LEER COUNTY, SOUTH SUDAN — The Leer County Commissioner, Hon. Maj. Gen. Taker Riak, accompanied by the County Health Department (CHD) Director, Lunydok Sam Tet, paid an official visit to the ongoing Free Surgical Eye Camp at Leer County Hospital to monitor service delivery and engage directly with patients receiving sight-saving treatment.

The health intervention, running from August 24 to September 5, 2026, is implemented under the project "Strengthening Access to Inclusive and Comprehensive Eye Care Services".

Supported by CBM (Christian Blind Mission), Buta Eye Center, and World Health Organization (WHO) partnerships, the initiative focuses on addressing preventable visual impairments and making eye care accessible across Leer County and neighboring areas.

Arrival Statement: Leer County Delegation Joins Funeral Prayers in Mayiendit

MAYIENDIT COUNTY — The Commissioner of Leer County, Hon. Stephen Taker Riak, has arrived in Mayiendit County alongside local officials and youth representatives to attend the three-day funeral prayers for the late elder and peace advocate, Sultan Gatmai Garang Dol.

Elder Gatmai Garang, who passed away at the age of 107, was a respected peacemaker and head chief for border affairs known for his pivotal role in regional reconciliation efforts, including the 1999 Wunlit Peace Conference.

Accompanying the Commissioner is a delegation of county officials, including:

The Commissioner’s Office of Leer County, Unity State (Republic of South Sudan) has officially issued a new administrative order outlining the revised landing fee structure for Leer Airstrip.

In accordance with the powers vested under Chapter VI, Section 52 (a) of the South Sudan Local Government Act 2009 A.D., the County Commissioner, Hon. Maj. Gen. Stephen Taker Riak D**g, has instituted Order No. 29/2026 A.D. to regulate and establish a clear structure for aircraft and cargo operations.

The order is fully effective as of July 6, 2026.

NATIONAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND CBM LAUNCH TRACHOMA MASS DRUG ADMINISTRATION IN LEER COUNTY; COMMISSIONER HON. MAJ. GEN. STEPHEN TAKER RIAK OPENS AND FACILITATES THE CAMPAIGN

LEER COUNTY — The National Ministry of Health (NMoH), in partnership with the Christian Blind Mission (CBM), has officially launched a vital Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign for Trachoma prevention and eye care in Leer County.

The launch event was officially opened by the County Commissioner, Hon. Maj. Gen. Stephen Taker Riak, who is actively facilitating the administrative and logistical process to ensure the campaign successfully reaches every household across the county.

Commissioner Taker expressed deep appreciation to NMoH and CBM for bringing this crucial preventive health service to the people of Leer.

County Health Director Lunydok Sam Tet will oversee the local implementation of the distribution, ensuring health teams are deployed efficiently.

Director Sam emphasized that the MDA is a critical preventative measure against blinding Trachoma and urged the community to cooperate fully with health workers.

The Office of the Commissioner calls upon all Payam administrators, traditional chiefs, and youth leaders to facilitate the smooth movement and work of the NMoH and CBM medical teams during this multi-day campaign.
