The reason why you should avail water near your hives if there is no source of water near your apiaries, water serves two main purposes:
- to reduce the temperature of the hive
- to prepare the food for the worker bees and drones larvae older than three days.
For food preparation, bees search for water that is rich in salt and collected depends on different factors: seasonality, climate conditions and latitude.
