This Mother’s Day, we celebrate young mothers not only for the care they give, but for the power, leadership, and resilience they carry every day. 💛

As part of the Young Mothers Consortium, was proud to see young mothers and community partners represented at the Conference, bringing global attention to the realities, challenges, and strengths of adolescent mothers across our communities.

Through the Young Mothers Project implemented in Kenya and Tanzania, CRVPF works alongside young mothers to create safe spaces for healing, learning, leadership, and economic empowerment. The project is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: young mothers are not passive recipients of support, but active agents of change in their own lives and communities.

At Women Deliver 2026, Fausta from Jamii Yetu represented community voices in conversations around power-building interventions in vulnerable communities such as Arusha, sharing reflections on how storytelling, collective care, and community-led approaches are helping shift harmful norms and create new possibilities for young mothers.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day, but we continue to honor young mothers whose courage and determination inspire change far beyond their own journeys. 🌍✨

Day 4 of our Series

Meet Flavia Nansamba, the newly elected Female Youth Councillor for Namataba town-coucil, Nagojje Sub County,Mukono District- elected unopposed at just 23 years old.

Flavia’s leadership journey began in her village where she served as Youth Chairperson, advocating for stronger youth representation. She saw firsthand how young people, especially girls, were often left behind when social programs came to their community.

“I had a reason for getting into leadership,” Flavia shares. “Young people, especially girls in my village, were being left out, even in activities meant for youth. I decided to go beyond the village level to the sub-county where I could make a bigger difference.”

Through the Adolescent Girls Power Program ( ), Flavia participated in a safe space close to home, where she gained life skills that strengthened her confidence, leadership, and community organizing abilities.

Today, she continues to support other young people to join skilling and enterprise programs, helping them move forward and ensuring girls’ voices are represented where decisions are made.

She Baked Her Own Wedding Cake — And Built a Business Too 💍🍰

Recently married, Susan had a beautiful surprise for her husband and family: she & a group of young women baked cakes for her traditional & church wedding!

She first learned baking through , with support from ( ) program. What began as training in cakes and snacks grew into pride and enterprise.

When it came time for her wedding, Susan didn’t need to outsource her cake. She made it herself, saving significant costs and cutting her wedding cake budget in half. She now continues to grow her craft through the EYDCD-supported incubation hub, a shared space where young people access professional equipment, mentorship from expert community bakers, and ongoing cross-learning.

Her wedding cake drew attention from other girls in the community, and Susan encouraged them not to stay at home with their skills, but to come and practice at the incubation hub, and find opportunities. Since the wedding, she has already secured additional orders.

Exciting news from the 🌿

They’ve published a feature highlighting the impact of the Children’s Rights and Violence Prevention Fund’s ( ) Adolescent Girls Power Program (AGPP) in , where they spotlight the DAR Girls, who began as participants and are now community partners strengthening the power, voice, and leadership of girls across their communities.

This is the essence of long-term, systems-focused investment: work that doesn’t just support girls in the moment, but equips them to lead, influence, and reshape the structures around them.

It’s encouraging to see this story amplified at regional level and to be part of a broader movement advancing girls’ rights, protection, and wellbeing across East Africa.👏🏾

Breaking news! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Beatrice Bukirwa, a participant in our (EYDCD) program, who has been elected as the Woman Councillor for Kisimbiri, Kikokiro Ward following the .

Beatrice’s journey is rooted in community, resilience, and skill. The basketry skills she first learned from her mother were further strengthened through Centre for Arts and Rights ( ), one of our community partners, where she also gained vital life skills. She went on to train and mentor groups of women, passing on both technical and leadership skills and supporting them to start businesses, earn income, and pay school fees.

Her leadership did not go unnoticed. Beatrice was recognised by her community and selected to serve under the Parish Development Model (PDM)-a government initiative aimed at reducing poverty and driving economic transformation at parish level.

Just a few months ago, during a visit by baord, alongside Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Beatrice shared her intention to contest for office while showcasing the remarkable work of her women’s basketry group. Today, she has turned that vision into victory.

Congratulations, Beatrice!

We are confident that the impact you have already created will only multiply, transforming the lives of women and families across Kisimbiri.
