Today marked an exciting new chapter for us at Make a Change Community Initiative as we officially kicked off the Youth Accelerator for Change project in partnership with Plan International 🌍

This new initiative, which builds on the foundation of the She Leads project, is focused on empowering young people to take action on climate change. In our first session, participants were taken through understanding climate change, its causes, and its effects, setting the pace for the solutions we shall be working on together.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our incredible Team of Trainers (TOTs) — Jolly Brenda, Data Siraji, Santina, Christian, and Andrew — for leading from the front and facilitating today’s session with passion and commitment. Your leadership is truly inspiring.
We are also grateful to all the participants for showing up, engaging, and taking the first step towards becoming climate champions in our communities.

Together, we are accelerating change for a greener and more sustainable future 🌱

We at Make a Change Community Initiative (MCC) were honored to participate in a 3-day CSO Capacity Strengthening Training organized by UNICEF following a recommendation from our partner Brass for Africa

This experience was truly impactful for us. It gave us the opportunity to reconnect, learn, and build meaningful networks with other organizations. Throughout the training, we strengthened our understanding in key areas such as financial management, accountability and transparency, risk management, strategic planning, donor confidence, and resource mobilization. We also explored HACT requirements, supporting documentation, and the key structures of a strong proposal.

We proudly concluded the training with a Market Day, where organizations showcased their work. As MCC, we exhibited our Brass Band instruments and our eco-friendly briquettes made from waste—demonstrating our commitment to youth empowerment and environmental sustainability.

We remain committed to applying this knowledge to strengthen our systems, grow our impact, and continue creating change in our community.

At Make a Change Community Initiative, we use our Brass Band mentorship program to create safe spaces where young people, including young mothers and girls, can learn music, build confidence, and challenge harmful gender norms that often limit their potential.

Through regular training sessions, participants not only learn how to play instruments but also engage in peer mentorship discussions on issues affecting girls and women, including self-confidence, leadership, and equal opportunities.

In many communities, musical instruments and leadership spaces are often seen as male-dominated. Our program intentionally encourages girls and young women to take up these spaces, proving that talent and leadership have no gender.

By investing in creative platforms like music, we are empowering young people to raise their voices, inspire change, and promote a future where everyone — regardless of gender — has equal opportunities to thrive.

Join us in supporting community programs that empower young people, amplify girls’ voices, and accelerate progress toward gender equality.

Transformation is a process, and through the we see it happen every day.

Music has become a tool of hope in our slum communities. It is helping youths discover their talent, keeping them focused, and giving young mothers a new sense of confidence, purpose, and belonging. What once looked impossible is now visible — discipline, teamwork, and dreams growing stronger with every practice.

Our progress from Bronze to now stepping into Silver level shows how far commitment, community support, and opportunity can take young people when they are given a chance. The community is proud, and we are proud too.

Special appreciation to for the continuous support, training, and guidance. Your belief in us keeps this journey moving and keeps our young people inspired.
This is more than music. This is change, growth, and a future being built note by note. 🎺

Earlier on today, we joined the world in marking the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Together with our partner Brass for Africa , Muwala Asobola Community Initiative-MACI , and the Namuwongo Police (OC & Deputy OC), we marched through the community, distributed handbills, and shared important information on preventing violence both online and offline.

We also held a Band Awareness Showcase, giving parents and the community a chance to see the talent, confidence, and empowerment we build through music.

Special appreciation to the Police (OC & Deputy OC) for joining our panel and sharing practical guidance on community policing and how we can prevent violence in our homes and community.

Deep appreciation to for your unwavering support toward this cause.
And thank you to Muwala Asobola Community Initiative for cooperating with us and stepping in on short notice to make the day a success.

To all the participants, youth, mothers, and community members who walked with us — thank you for showing up with passion and purpose.

Together, we continue to UNiTE and end violence against all women and girls. 💜
