Within that framework, Phenny directed the donations towards assistance to those in need, first through basic food of salt, beans and posho as well as basic health needs of masks and soap. Then, as it was planting season, corn seeds and hoes were distributed and met with much success as it allowed those receiving to maintain pride and dignity to grow their own food! Phenny, founder and Director o
f Selfless Hands Bwindi saw a need to take this to the next step and Selfless Hands Bwindi, as a registered charity and NGO, is the result. Within the program of Selfless Hands Bwindi there is a three fold interconnected focus:
- To minimize poverty around the protected areas, in various ways such as distributions of seedlings and hoes.
- Promote education by supporting the orphaned/needy youth with scholastic materials.
- Assist conservation and climate change with tree planting. The goal is to give alternatives for those poor people in remote villages who degrade the resources of the protected areas through poaching of the animals and cutting down forest reserves. By focusing on involving such communities in the conservation efforts, Phenny believes that they will see the benefits personally and communally. In this selfless mission, Selfless Hands Bwindi wish to appreciate our key partners for their tremendous efforts done towards the cause.
