When we focus on home visits we don't just encourage our friends, we don't just laugh together and cry together but we eat together. Last week was a precious moment where we went out of our way to check on a friend who had shifted out of the community. It took an extra 20 minutes of driving and getting lost but the JOY our sweet friend felt was beautiful. She was worried her blood pressure would go too high!
She had been sick with typhoid for a few weeks and no one else had come to check on her. We arrived with fresh bananas donated from a friend of ours and spent time with her. She felt so loved. Sometimes we can feel as if just checking on people, is that really enough. Is there not something else we can do for our friends who are in hard situations. But the truth is showing up and loving people and meeting people where they are is transformational. It takes time and energy and that is something highly valued.
Who will you show up for today? Who needs to be loved? Maybe a neighbor or a friend? Or even the shop assistant at your local store!
