Today, we held an engaging session with teenage boys on understanding masculinity and challenging harmful gender norms.

Through open discussions and role plays, the boys explored the pressures of “being a real man” and how these expectations can lead to risky behaviors and disrespect.

By the end of the session, many participants redefined masculinity as:
✔ Respecting others
✔ Taking responsibility for their actions
✔ Practicing self-control

💬 “A real man is someone who respects girls and makes his own decisions.” From Asuma one of the youngest boy in the session.

This activity is part of our commitment to raising a generation of boys who choose empathy over aggression and respect over pressure.

Empowering young people with knowledge is one of the strongest ways to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Today, the HAYAWOHU team engaged students in an interactive session focused on understanding the risks of unintended pregnancy, making informed decisions, and building confidence to protect their future.

Through open dialogue, education, and mentorship, we are helping young people make safe and responsible choices.

Together, we can create a generation that is informed, empowered, and able to pursue their dreams without interruption.

🌸 Happy International Women’s Day 2026! 🌸

Today, HAYAWOHU – Haki Ya Women’s Health Uganda celebrates the power of young voices and the importance of empowering communities to promote gender equality and health rights.

Through our Women’s Day Inter-School Essay Competition 2026, students explored the topic:
“How Social Norms and Gender-Based Violence Affect Access to SRHR Services Among Young People in Grassroots Communities in Uganda.”

🏆 We are proud to announce Eastland High School as the Best School Winner of this year’s Inter-School Essay Competition.

Students demonstrated remarkable insight and creativity in addressing how harmful social norms and gender inequalities affect young people’s access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services.

👏 Congratulations to Eastland High School, and appreciation to all participating schools for amplifying youth voices and inspiring change.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us continue supporting young people and accelerating efforts to create safer and more informed communities.
