Yesterday, several stakeholders convened at the office of the president for a high level Diaspora conference.

In Opening remarks, Amb Abbey Walusimbi the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs called on the stakeholders to work more closely to further national development and protection of the Diaspora, Hon Milly Babalanda-the Minister for presidency called on stakeholders to urgently put words into actions and encourage the Diaspora to invest in Uganda.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it's concluding stakeholders engagement on the national Diaspora policy while Mr Oloka Keneth, ED-kyeyo initiative Uganda & the President of the Ugandan Migrant Workers explained the roles of the Diaspora to Uganda and called on gov't and other stakeholders to collaborate with the Diaspora but also to promote their rights, facilitate Diaspora communities plus their re-intergration

Mr Usher Owere, the chief Labour Affairs of the external Labour powerhouse thanked the government for its persuits in promoting safe migration but called for more efforts in doing so.

In closing the conference, Hon Simon Mulongo-State Minister for Ministry of Gender said that the gov't is restructuring Labour Migration to promote the safety of the Ugandan Migrant Workers.

The conference involved a number of stakeholders, both local and international, private and public

1. Hearing from the Diaspora about their plights, and concertedly strategise how to address them
2. Promoting Unity and patriotism among the Diaspora
3. Disclosing viable and feasible economic opportunities to the Diaspora
4. Getting more details to add to the Diaspora database
5. Re-intergration of the returnee Migrant Workers
6. Promoting the relationship between the Diaspora, government and the private sector
7. And others

Today, various stakeholders including Kyeyo Initiative Uganda convened at Four points by Sheraton hotel and reviewed the National Diaspora Policy draft.

Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IOM, the meeting involved developing the current draft into a comprehensive policy to engage, include, Protect and develop the Ugandan Diaspora.

Speaking to the stakeholders, Mr Oloka Keneth the ED of Kyeyo Initiative Uganda decried the so far 13yrs delay in passing the policy, but also suggested several Diaspora protection and Development clauses into the policy eg the justice, participation and Re-intergration systems, economic incentives, etc

The government of Uganda through the Office of the President-Diaspora Affairs, the Foundation of Ugandan Joint Migrant Workers for Peace and Development has consoled the Ugandans in Kenya to be calm as it's talking with the Kenyan government to calm the situation, also it has called on all the Ugandans in Kenya to go to the Ugandan Embassy in Nairobi and put down their details for the needed assistance or to send the details via the already given channels and that those ready to facilitate themselves to Uganda can also do so.
