Managing Asylum and Migration | Losing the Narrative?
Narratives about refugees and migrants are increasingly shaped by fear and political rhetoric —
often obscuring the legal and humanitarian realities. As governments increasingly turn to
third-country agreements, offshore processing, and return hubs, we need to ask: are these policies
lawful, effective, and worth their public cost? ⚖️
R-Space is convening two technical panels during UNGA week to dig into the legal limits of these
policies and how public perception is shaping migration debates:

We were pleased to host Rebecca Rowney from the University of Oxford at Aider Refugee Initiative yesterday for research on refugee women's use of social media.

As digital access grows, so do risks—online scams, cyber harassment, trafficking, and exploitation. Research like this helps build safer digital spaces for refugee women and girls.

Welcoming Our New Interns!

Last week, we welcomed and oriented our new internship students at Aider Refugee Initiative .

We believe young people play a vital role in strengthening our humanitarian work. Before joining our field activities, every intern is introduced to our values, principles, policies, and the Aider way of working.

The orientation was led by our Team Sadiya, Afaf and Aisha , equipping the interns with the knowledge and skills they need to serve refugee communities with professionalism and compassion.

Together, we are nurturing the next generation of humanitarian leaders.

At Aider Refugee Initiative, we remain committed to investing in leadership, advancing refugee rights, and delivering greater impact with limited resources.

When young people discover their voice, they don't just change their own future—they inspire a generation. ✨
Through the POWER Project, in partnership with NRC - Norwegian Refugee Council NRC, Aider Refugee Initiative trained 28 young refugees in photography, leadership, public speaking, and advocacy from 75 applicants.
Today, 15 are already earning an income, while many others are leading community advocacy and protection initiatives.

Our Head of Department – Rule of Law, Information & Protection, Afaf Ahmed Abdi, is at the LWF Joint Submission workshop for the UN Universal Periodic Review (40th Session) on refugees, asylum seekers & post-conflict communities in Uganda.

Uganda now hosts over 2 million refugees & asylum seekers – access to justice, education & protection remain critical.
