Managing Asylum and Migration | Losing the Narrative?
Narratives about refugees and migrants are increasingly shaped by fear and political rhetoric —
often obscuring the legal and humanitarian realities. As governments increasingly turn to
third-country agreements, offshore processing, and return hubs, we need to ask: are these policies
lawful, effective, and worth their public cost? ⚖️
R-Space is convening two technical panels during UNGA week to dig into the legal limits of these
policies and how public perception is shaping migration debates:
🔹 Panel 1: Managing Asylum and Migration: International Cooperation, Public Costs and Policy
Choices
🕙 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM (Doors open 9:30 AM)
🔹 Panel 2: Losing the Narrative? How Media, Politics, and Public Fear Shape Perceptions of
Refugees and Migrants
🕦 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
