*Agribusiness ||* Land use planning

Today I was thinking about you farmers and decided to write about something a lot of existing and new farmers shy away from and try as much as possible to avoid,

That is the topic of death.

As a commercial farmer & Entrepreneur I understand that each day, you wake up every morning and work very hard.

When I sit down with a lot of entrepreneurs & farmers and ask them why they put in the number of hours that they do..
.oftentimes, there are two major reasons and chief motivators for them.

The first reason is that they want to provide employment and make a positive contribution to our economy which is great.

The second common reason is that they want to leave a legacy, a future that their children and families can build upon when they are gone.

For you, these might also be the Chief reasons why you are working so hard.

What has me worried, however, especially when it comes to the second reason, is that..
..when I ask my fellow entrepreneurs if they have a succession plan in place...
..or if they have EFFECTIVELY set up something to safeguard their legacy and their children's future,..
.they often don't have anything solid set up.

Pause and think about this for a moment;

How many famous entrepreneurs or companies have you heard of, who, during their peak days were very successful and wealthy,
..only for that wealth to disappear after they passed on?

A lot right?

There are two chief reasons the wealth of most entrepreneurs & businesses disappear after they pass on...

The main one being mismanagement and the second one being lack of knowledge.

If you are working hard farmers to build a legacy for your family and future generations,
.then you should think hard about how you can secure their future.

If you look at the oldest farms that are still existing today like the tea and coffee plantations in eastern highlands,..
..you will see that there are three things in common about them;

The first one is that Founders of these companies all passed,..
.the 2nd one is that the companies are among the largest in the world and..
..the third is that they have been in existence for 100 years and continue creating generational wealth for the grand children of the original founders.

How did the people who created these organizations protect the organizations from their graves?

They had land use and management plans.

When it comes to securing the future of your loved ones, nothing is as powerful as having a land use and management plan!

Where you as the farm owner and Afrostain, can put solid terms on how your land is supposed to be utilised...
..and how the enterprises managed to run long after you are gone.

There are many benefits to getting a land use & management plan but if I'm to give you only five it is that;

🔜Establish the following issues before embarking on an agricultural activity:

☑️Farm Potential -This includes size of the enterprises, annual cropping area (ACA), carrying capacity (CC) and viability/economics of production.

☑️Mechanical conservation requirements - The requirements include the need for road alignment, water ways siting, storm drains that are necessary, contour direction, logical land clearing sequence, fire break siting and lands to be separated or consolidated for agric/ rotational use.

☑️Underground water potential zone map! Focusing on scanning and classifying the highest, the lowest as well as the no water potential zones for your farm subsurface, meanwhile there's no more painful trial and errors!

☑️Detail of Development priorities among many others to be presented in a SMART documentation!
