We successfully concluded a highly impactful training at Ujuzi Co-Creation HUB on Navigating Accounting & Tax Regulations for Refugee-Led Organizations and NGOs in Uganda led by legal expert Victor Ajuna, the session equipped our team with essential knowledge on NGO registration, tax compliance (PAYE, VAT, WHT), donor reporting, and best accounting practices.
Participants gained practical tools to strengthen financial management, avoid common compliance mistakes, and build credibility with donors and regulators.
A big thank you to Advocate Victor Ajuna for this timely and valuable training.
At UJUZI, we remain committed to professional excellence and sustainable operations as we serve our community.

We are excited to announce the successful completion of our 8-week UJUZI Entrepreneurship Program (UEP) in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.
Adopted from the Forward•Inc model and implemented locally with their support, the program equipped over 20 refugee youth with foundational entrepreneurship skills. By the end, participants developed more than 10 promising business ideas.
The certificate award ceremony was proudly attended by Mr Atukunda Samuel and Noel from Nakivale Secondary School, who joined us in celebrating the graduates, including those from the tailoring and English for Adults programs.
We extend our deepest appreciation to Niamh for her unwavering guidance, mentorship, and support throughout the program. We are also grateful to the AU-EU Youth Lab for making this initiative possible.
Congratulations to all our graduates! We look forward to seeing their creative business ideas turn into real enterprises.
Stay tuned…

This week, we proudly wrapped up our English for Adults program with a placement test completed by over 20 dedicated participants.
In partnership with Ujuzi Co-Creation HUB and Forward·Inc, under our Advancing Refugee Entrepreneurs Globally project, this program equipped adult refugees, especially from Francophone countries like the DRC and Burundi, with foundational skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening in English, opening doors to new opportunities. 🤩
We covered Basic to Level 1. Our next cohort (Levels 1 & 2) starts soon.
If you'd like to help empower more lives through language learning, consider supporting us every contribution counts. DM for details or ways to get involved. 🙌

Excited to share highlights from Day 1 of our Ujuzi Entrepreneurship Program (UEP) in Nakivale Refugee Settlement during the visit of Niamh O'Driscoll and Haya Shamaa from Forward·Inc.
Led by Niamh, young refugee entrepreneurs started strong with energizing self-introductions, dynamic networking icebreakers, and a fun group energizer to spark team spirit.
The core sessions featured an interactive business workshop using the Lean Canvas to turn ideas into solid plans, plus a Training of Trainers for the Ujuzi team on Retrospective techniques to reflect, learn, and grow stronger.

It was an absolute joy to host the Forward·Inc team at the Ujuzi Co-Creation HUB in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.
Welcoming Haya Shamaa and Niamh O'Driscoll gave us the chance to finally meet in person after months of online collaboration, celebrate the real progress of our Advancing Refugee Entrepreneurs Globally project, and strengthen our Ujuzi Entrepreneurship Program that empowers refugee youth with the tools to start/build sustainable businesses.
The 1 week they spent in Uganda was full of activities, including:
- Practical Lean Canvas workshops where participants shaped their business ideas into clear, actionable plans.
- Capacity Building for the UJUZI Team: 2 Training of Trainers sessions for our staff in program retrospectives and evaluation, fundraising, and project management.
- A stakeholders roundtable of entrepreneurs with the theme “Pathways to Economic Self-Reliance: Unlocking Refugee Potential through Entrepreneurship,” which gathered different stakeholders around Nakivale, including local leaders and refugee youth entrepreneurs, to share more insights about what they believe entrepreneurship can contribute to the lives of refugees in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.
We’re deeply grateful for Forward·Inc’s incredible support; their knowledge, energy, and partnership go far beyond what we ever expected and continue to help UJUZI grow stronger every day.
Special thanks to the AU-EU Youth Lab for supporting this program and making our plans a success. We had time to learn, collaborate, and have fun.
Stay tuned for more updates about us.
