The thin line between life and death. ❤️🐴
The last two days have reminded us just how fragile life can be.

After a very difficult birth, we feel incredibly fortunate to have both mother and foal with us today, and seeing them walking peacefully together on the green fields of CTC, makes every difficult moment worthwhile.

Working with animals teaches you many things, but perhaps one of the greatest lessons is how thin the line between life and death can be. Things can change within minutes, and every life saved and every new life born is something never to take for granted.

Today, we are simply grateful. Welcome to the world, little one. 🌿🐴❤️

Meet some of our beautiful captive-born side-striped jackals (Lupulella adusta).
Unlike their better known black backed cousins, side striped jackals prefer wetter, more densely vegetated habitats such as woodland, bushland, grassland and marshes, making Uganda excellent natural habitat for the species.
They are also remarkably adaptable omnivores. Alongside insects, rodents and other small animals, wild fruits can form a surprisingly important part of their diet. One study in Zimbabwe found that roughly a third of their diet consisted of fruit.
Side striped jackals usually live alone, in pairs or small family groups, and breeding pairs form strong, often long lasting monogamous bonds. They are also highly vocal, one of their characteristic calls is described as an unusual owl-like hoot rather than the classic jackal howl.
Small, intelligent, adaptable and often overlooked, one of Africa's most fascinating little predators. ❤️🐾
