Before we learned what resilience meant we watched our mothers live it.

She woke up tired and showed up anyway.
She carried pain she never let us see.
She built a home out of very little and made it feel like everything.

A mother's strength is not loud. It does not ask for applause. It just keeps going.

This Mother's Day WORI celebrates every mother in Busoga and across Uganda who has held her family together with hands that deserved so much more rest.

You are seen. You are honoured. You are loved.

Stop waiting for him to become who you need him to be.

The version of him you are hoping for is not coming. The person in front of you is showing you exactly who he is.

Believe him. Choose yourself. WORI is here.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is nothing at all.

Just stay.
Just listen.
Just hold her.

Not every wound needs advice. Some just need warmth.

Be the hug someone needs today. 🤍

She works twice as hard.
She earns 32% less.
She is told to be grateful.

Not on our watch.

This Labour Day WORI says: equal work. Equal pay. Equal respect. No exceptions.

We will be honest with you.

We are not a big organisation with endless resources. We do not have the largest team or the deepest pockets. What we have is this community. And an unshakeable belief that where there is will, there is always a way.

That belief is what built our women's shelter. It is what drives our workshops. It is what pushes us to provide legal aid to survivors who have been told the system is not for them.

When a woman comes to WORI she is not just given a safe place to sleep. She is sheltered. She is skilled. She is supported to rebuild a life that belongs to her — on her own terms.

This is Busoga. This is our home. And we are changing it, workshop by workshop, family by family, woman by woman.

We cannot do it at the scale this community deserves without you. Every share, every donation, every conversation you start because of this post — it reaches one more woman who needs to know she is not alone.

Help us go further. Share this post and support WORI today.

Let us be honest with ourselves.

Most domestic violence in Uganda is never reported. And when it is reported, the survivor is often the one who ends up alone , abandoned by family, judged by neighbours, silenced by the community to protect the name of the man who hurt her.

This is not culture. This is not tradition. This is harm dressed up in respectability.

At WORI, we are challenging this directly. It does not matter if he leads the prayers on Sunday. It does not matter if he chairs the village meetings.

It does not matter if everyone calls him a good man. If he is abusing a woman in that home, he is a criminal , and the law says so.

We are here for the women of Busoga. We are here to listen, to provide legal support, to stand beside survivors when the community turns its back.

No woman should have to choose between safety and acceptance. Not in our community. Not on our watch.

Your life is far greater than the image you feel pressured to protect.

Many women remain in harmful and abusive situations, not because they are unaware, but because of societal expectations, fear of judgment, and the desire to preserve dignity in the eyes of others. Unfortunately, silence often allows abuse to escalate.

True dignity is not found in endurance of harm, but in choosing safety, self-worth, and truth. No reputation, expectation, or promise is worth risking your life.

At WORI, we continue to advocate for safe spaces, awareness, and empowerment so that women can make informed, life-affirming decisions without fear or shame.

Economic independence is power.

It gives women choices.
It gives them a voice.
It gives them freedom.

And when one woman rises, a whole community grows stronger.

Empower a woman. Transform a community.

Many of us grew up dreaming of a perfect life. Love, marriage, happiness.

But when things change, when the love we believed in begins to hurt us, many choose to hide it. We stay silent because of what people will say. We endure because we want to protect the image we created.

But the truth is this
You were never meant to suffer in silence.

No relationship is worth losing yourself. No promise is worth your peace or your safety.

It is okay to say enough is enough.
It is okay to choose yourself.

You deserve love that is safe, kind, and real.

It’s 2026.

If having a woman as your leader makes you uncomfortable, it’s not about her ability, it’s about bias.

Women are rising, leading, and changing the world.
The shift is happening, with or without you.

Sympathy is easy. Accountability is what actually changes things.

1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. We see it in our homes, our workplaces, and our feeds. And yet meaningful action remains rare.

At the Women Rights Initiative, we are calling for more than awareness. We are calling for courage, consistency, and collective responsibility from every individual, family, and institution.

Challenge the norms. Support the survivors. Be part of the solution.
Move from sympathy to accountability.
