The Jinja Educational Trust is transforming the education and welfare of young people in Uganda

We recently held another training session on making, using and looking after washable pads. Focus was placed on menstrual hygiene management and the cost and environmental benefits of reusable pads.

As with all JET training, participants go on to teach others and we follow up to provide further support and continue building awareness.

Small actions like this can have a big impact on the dignity and confidence of girls, improving their attendance in school and their ability to concentrate in class.

We've just had the most excitingly jam-packed week with trustees and fabulous friends of JET. More than an opportunity to showcase recent construction and training projects, it was interactive and hands-on with guidance on active learning, nutrition, making washable sanitary pads, enjoying outdoor play-based learning and effective classroom communication.

Today we celebrate the JET team, the teachers in our schools and all the inspirational women and girls we know.

The JET team and teachers from our schools recently came together with partner YouBelong for a workshop as part of our innovative mental health programme, PowerfulMinds.

The main focus was to integrate 3 years of learning into the materials we use to inform, educate and communicate with school communities.

It's fantastic to see how our teachers have implemented changes in classroom practice and in the way they relate to the children in their care.

Huge congratulations go out to all JET partner schools on their recent Primary Leaving Exam results. Excellence and progress prevailed!

We'd like to shine a spotlight on Yahweh, whose children only reached exam age last year. They've now achieved a 100% pass rate, with children reaching the top division, 2 years running.

Teachers and leaders at Yahweh have all consistently and actively participated in JET training and development opportunities, from active literacy and numeracy learning to leadership in the classroom.

The impact of this investment speaks volumes.

These are not only new buildings at St Patrick. These are buildings which will change the lives and educational outcomes of hundreds of children.

They are brand new dormitories - and we've built bathrooms too - which will provide a safe and secure haven for learners who at times can't reach school safely or whose home environment does not allow for peace and study time.

We're all so happy and thankful to everyone who has made this concept a reality!

The start of every school year gets brighter with JET!

The children and teachers arriving at St Patrick for the start of this academic year may struggle to recognise their own school. While the holidays were on, we've given the worn-out classrooms a huge face-lift. Learning is about to become better than ever.

All this is part of an even bigger project, made possible by a group of fantastic donors. Watch this space for more...we're back!

We've just had the most inspirational and innovative week with expert educators and trustees! Our days were packed with teacher training plus group and individual support, interaction with the children and an intensive active learning course for the JET team.

Huge thanks to the hours of dedicated time our visiting teachers gave us. We've all been left feeling exhilarated and ready to roll..it out!

is here and what better time to reflect on the big impact we're having, thanks to our dedicated team, powerful partnerships, incredible trustees and fantastic donors! We've just extended the reach of our Education Programme, including 1 on 1 assessments with another 90 children, measuring progress in developmental milestones.

Children totally enjoying their newly refurbished playground, all thanks to fabulous fundraiser and his success! A great source of happiness and learning...and there's more to come!

In advance of , we held refresher training on recognising signs of mental distress in children, coping strategies and the helping process we have embedded in school systems. We talked about stress management for teachers too.

Closer involvement with community and local health centres is next. This hugely successful programme has already helped 115 children and trained 26 teachers.
