Adovicuganda International, are deeply saddened by the passing of our feminist sibling, sister, and friend, Joan Amek Eoju, Executive Director (Kahuna) of Rella Women’s Foundation. We mourn the loss of a powerful voice, a trusted comrade, and a loving sister in the struggle for equality and justice.

Joan’s legacy lives on in the movements she helped build, the communities she walked with, and the bold change she championed with unwavering courage. Our hearts and solidarity are with her family, her comrades at Rella Women's Foundation, and everyone holding space and care in this difficult time.

Rest in power, Joan. Your light, courage, and feminist spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.

Mr. Deogracious Mwondha, a Senior Probation Officer for Bugiri District, attributes violence to poor parenting, as many parents fail to effectively nurture their children. According to him, 83 percent of Bugiri’s children do not live with their biological parents.

“You find that a child lives with a sister, aunt, uncle, or even a family friend. These days, people lack discipline and cannot impart it to young children. As a result, these minors grow up thinking that violence is normal because they experience it,” Mr. Mwondha explained.

He further elaborated that culturally related barriers have also promoted GBV, where the female gender is still regarded as inferior. He cited how women fear contesting certain political positions, claiming they belong to the opposite s*x.

Join our efforts to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls.
