Powering progress in Kyambogo Village ☀️🔋

We are so excited to begin installing solar panels at the hub in Kyambogo Village, Kalagala Parish, Wakisi Division - Njeru municipality, Buikwe district! This clean energy system will provide reliable lighting, power the water pump and create more opportunities for women and Youths in the village

This is more than just solar power, it’s a step toward sustainable growth, better access to water, and brighter opportunities for the community.

Sustainable growth like this can only be achieved through working together. Visit www.foscod.org to be part of the FOSCOD family either by partnering with us, volunteer/ intern with us.

We are excited to share a new milestone for FOSCOD, the launch of our Community Based
Participatory Research (CBPR) initiative in Naluvule Village!
So what is CBPR? Community Based Participatory Research is a research approach that
partners directly with community members throughout the entire research process. Rather
than studying a community from the outside, CBPR means doing research together,
valuing local knowledge, lived experience, and community priorities every step of the way.
This research is focused on better understanding how climate change is affecting the
Naluvule community, from shifts in weather patterns and agriculture to broader impacts
on daily life and wellbeing.

Last week, our CBPR intern and the FOSCOD team began data collection with semi-
structured community conversations with residents of Naluvule Village. This functioned as

an open, guided discussion that gave community members the space to share their stories
in their own words.
This week, we are launching focus group sessions with the men, women, youth, and
people with disabilities of the village, making sure every generation, gender, and ability has
a seat at the table.
We are grateful for the warm welcome from the Naluvule community and excited for the
journey ahead. Stay tuned for more updates!

Behind the Scenes: Planning for a Healthier and Greener Community

At FOSCOD, meaningful impact begins with thoughtful planning and teamwork.

Our team came together to discuss and strategize the upcoming Energy Saving Stoves Project in Kalangala Parish, an initiative aimed at improving household cooking solutions and promoting environmental sustainability.

With the generous support of Myriad Foundation Canada, this project will soon reach families in the villages of Kalagala, Byabuku, Kyambogo, Wabusanke and Naluvule.

The energy saving stoves will help households: Reduce firewood consumption, Improve indoor air quality, Lower fuel expenses and Protect the environment

Moments like these remind us that sustainable change starts with collaboration, shared ideas, and a commitment to serve our communities better.

We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to sharing more updates as this project unfolds.

Bringing Clean Energy Closer to Communities - Kyambogo village

Foundation for Sustainable Community Based Development (FOSCOD) in partnership with Women Rising for Africa (WRA) has successfully installed the Solar Hub Container in Kyambogo village, Wakisi Division, Buikwe district.

Following our recent site inspection and community engagement, the installation of the solar hub container marks a major step towards providing clean, reliable and sustainable energy access to the community. Once fully operational, the solar hub will support local businesses, enhance economic opportunities and empower women and youth by providing access to renewable energy solutions.

At FOSCOD, we believe that sustainable energy plays a key role in improving livelihoods and building resilient communities.

“Kwepena” - a classic Ugandan word meaning “to dodge”

In this fun traditional game, two players stand side by side about 5 meters apart, while a third person stands in the middle. The side players throw a ball to hit the one in the center, who must dodge by moving quickly back and forth between them.

Ugandan games like “Kwepena” are part of the exciting cultural activities we share to give students a full immersion experience during their internship with FOSCOD here in Jinja Uganda!

This is what community contribution looks like! 👏

We are thrilled to share the story of our Solar-Powered Salon in Naluvule Village. This is more than a business; it's a testament to how genuine partnership - between communities, our team, and partners - creates lasting impact.

This powerful project was facilitated by our intern from Hartwick College. As part of his public and environmental health internship, he facilitated vital workshops and coordinated local solar technicians to work hand-in-hand with community.

But the heart of this success is this community itself from day one. Community contributions built this achievement:

The Foundation: The community provided the land and building, a permanent investment in their future.

The Skill: Members volunteered their labour, working alongside the technicians to install the solar equipment and build local capacity.

The Enterprise: Local barbers run the salon, ensuring income stays within the community.

This is the secret to sustainability! When a community invests its own resources, the project becomes their asset. This is how we ensure it continues to thrive and empower the community for years to come.

A huge thank you to the entire Naluvule community for your enthusiasm, vision, and to our Hartwick intern, Atta Amponsah for his dedicated facilitation!

Building Environment Sustainability Through Education at Kalagala UMEA Primary School

We're thrilled to share incredible results from our tree planting initiative!

During a Monitoring and Evaluation visit, we found the trees thriving, healthy, strong, and beautifully maintained by our amazing students. The campus is visibly greener, and the dedication of these young conservationists is truly inspiring!

The Transformation:
Students who previously depended on charcoal burning for income are now passionate advocates for conservation through their Environment Club. They're choosing to protect trees rather than cut them, showing that environmental sustainability and economic opportunity can work hand in hand.

Community Impact:
When students embrace conservation, the impact ripples beyond school walls. They become environmental ambassadors in their homes and neighborhoods, inspiring families to adopt sustainable practices like coffee and fruit tree planting.

"Our students are learning hands-on about tree care, and they take pride in protecting the environment. We are raising future conservationists." – Teacher, Kalagala UMEA Primary School

This is what community-driven change looks like! When we invest in environmental education, we don't just plant trees—we cultivate environmental champions who will protect our planet for generations to come.

Investing in young people today means a greener tomorrow.
