The students at Southside middle school in grade 7 read the book “I’ll always write back“. After the students read this book, they contacted Delia Garrity to see if a penpal project could happen with HELP primary school grade 7.
Southside has approximately 250 students in grade 7. HELP has approximately 60 in grade 7. So the students at southside worked as a team to write letters to send to Uganda, meaning 4 students collaborated on one letter. Then one HELP student wrote one letter back to the team.
We’re inspired by their compassion and desire to connect to others across the world from them. 💛

Students at HELP Primary School grade 7 wrote letters to Penpals at South Side Middle School in Rockville Centre NY. The students loved sharing their favorite subjects, sports, music, foods, and family traditions! 📫💛

Our thanks to the members of Wilson School SADD club. Each member shared with students the basic need of a toothbrush in the village of Masese. 💛🪥 The school rallied around this idea and the SADD members collected hundreds of toothbrushes. These items will be brought to HELP Primary School by HELP Board member, Delia Garrity.

We believe breaking the cycle of poverty can only be accomplished through a self-sustainable future. One of the ways we hope to move forward in this goal is through agricultural projects. 🌱🪏

At the HELP school, we have an aquaponic system. With this integrative system, we are able to cultivate fish and plants by using the wastewater from the fish tanks to give nutrients to the vegetation. We use this system as a training platform for both our students and the surrounding community.

We also work closely with education programs that teach more traditional farming practices in both rural and urban areas. We believe by investing in new and traditional agriculture practices we can build a sustainable future. 💛

Meet Esther Patience! 👋 She is 8 years old and in Primary 2. She is the fourth of six children and dreams of one day becoming a teacher.

After her parents separated, Patience began living with her father, who works hard doing casual labor to provide for the family. Even with his efforts, keeping up with school dues is difficult, and Patience is often forced to miss school.

But despite the challenges she faces, Patience loves learning and wants nothing more than to stay in the classroom.

With the support of a sponsor, Patience can continue her education and keep pursuing the future she dreams about.

A $35 monthly sponsorship helps provide:
- school fees and supplies
- daily lunch and additional food support
- medical assistance
- bedding and blankets
- support for her family

Most importantly, sponsorship reminds children like Patience that they are supported, encouraged, and deeply valued.

Nothing gets the classroom more excited than math with Peter Garrity, lovingly known by the students as Mr. Math and Mr. Bingo. Peter is a professor and Columbia University and a HELP board member. Through games, laughter, and lots of high-fives, Peter brings the joy of learning to life for both students and teachers alike.
