Adolescent boys and young men are key drivers and papatraitors of HIV GBV among AGYW and victims of mental health and yet are often left out when it comes to these conversations mostly HIV prevention.

Throughout this month of June,
We have been so intentional in engaging men in dialogues, these dialogues are aimed at understanding what's the missing link in engaging men, defining their roles in HIV prevention and GBV as well as co-creating solutions for reducing cases of GBV and Mental health among men.

Key actions included,

men to disist from allowing their emotions take control of their decisions,

Men to seek medical support as soon as they feel unhealthy.

Seek HIV prevention tools including PrEP, PEP and condoms mostly those in high risk work including the injection.

Listen before reaction to ensure harmony and peace in their homes

One of the key objectives of the YPLHIV Leader's Summit26 was to identify and document innovative ideas young people are using to change lives for fellow young people through abstract presentations during the summit

One of the submitted abstract is the KACHAI an innovative idea by Mr. Mukibi Sharif a mental health advocate under the 02 plus unesco program which addresses mental health challenges among young people in institutions of higher learning through casual meet ups and conversations in round circles which creates an open and safe space for them to open up about issues they are battling.

This way young people are supported to access services, outgrow the challenges and copy up hence improving their lives.

The Kachai and more are great ideas that can be scaled but oftentimes they are not given the much desired audience they need to be scaled hence the summit to applify such innovations to reach a wider community and be taken up lese where.

Young people are not waiting they are leading the HIV response.

At the YPLHIV Leaders’ Summit 2026 organized by in Eastern Uganda, with support from and other partners, youth voices took center stage to shape solutions on HIV, mental health, and economic empowerment. With 14,000 new HIV infections among young people in 2024 80% among AGYW, the urgency is real.

Through dialogue and action, the summit strengthened youth leadership and advanced integrated, youth-friendly services that respond to real community needs.

As part of the road map to the 2026 Young people living with HIV leaders Summit which seems to provide a platforms for young people in rural and marginalized communities to voice their voices, dialogue with their leaders and peer to peer learning,

together with support from we conducted a menstrual health outreach in Bussede Sub county Jinja local government where we distributed 1246 reliable Sanitary Pads to girls in Bussede Seed Secondary School, Namaganga primary schoo and Adolescent girls and women in Bussede.

Girls in these communities suffer multiple challenges including menstrual poverty, stigma coupled by structural barrier

As a network, part of our mandate is to build snagies with like-minded partners as well as coordinate the HIV and health response for young people in the Busoga sub region,

Last Friday we hosted youth led and youth serving organizations, YAPs, government leaders, implementing partners and other key stakeholders from the Busoga sub region in a linking up and learning event.

With a main goal of learning from each other on the best practices around Integration health services towards realization of health indicators within the region.

The event also provided youth leaders and aspiring inventors with basic knowledge on resources mobilization, a key step in elevating the status qau of Young people in Busoga sub region towards participating in national and regional civic spaces.

As part of commemoration of World AIDS,our peer Educator joined

to share her journey of positive living,with the technical team parliament.

Her key ask to the technical team was to prioritize HIV Prevention intervention towards adolescent girls and young women among which the incidences are continuing to increase drastically.

As a network we remain committed to empowering young people (young women) to raise their voices and speak out their concerns to their right audience.

to speak to the Technical team of does not only empower her to speak but also provides space to grow her self esteem as well as self reimagine her journey.

Stories like these keep inspiring more young people living with HIV to raise their hopes and hence living positively and fulfill their dreams.
