Its a non profit organisation founded in 2018 by ishenda Francis Who was a leader of an education institution in Jinja, His ambition is helping youths irrespective of Gender, education level and backgrounds, religious and political orientation and economic abilities. He set up the SHINE WITH SKILLS workshop that trains youth in metal works and fabrication with the help of professional trainers who are also victims of the same challenges, located on plot 60 Oboja Road in Jinja. He is passionate about the community empowerment of young people through Economic dependence.
SHINE WITH SKILLS foundation is to answer the need for youth who drop out of school before acquiring the necessary employable skills. Youth aged 13- 27 make up the biggest percentage of Ugandan population and labour force, yet with no skills. While literacy is defined as ability to read and write, Shine with Skills foundation envisions youth empowerment beyond literacy to skilling the Youth.
RATIONAL OF THE PROJECT
The Business, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET) Strategic Plan 2013-2022 dubbed ‘Skilling Uganda’ illustrates that technical-vocational skills are essential for individuals, enterprises and the economy. Our interaction with the children, parents and stakeholders in jinja shows there is need to enable individuals to increase productivity and raise incomes. A skilled workforce enables enterprises to increase their productivity and profits. Skills enable the economy to expand and grow. Employers in Uganda often complain about skills shortages that constrain production and expansion. Large segments of the population, including those working in the informal sector, lack the skills they need to lift themselves out of poverty. The economy faces critical skills gaps that threaten to limit the growth of key sectors, including agriculture, energy, information and communication among others. So the skills in sewing, computers, and organic agriculture among others that Shine with Skills will offer are required by the jobs market in Uganda. In Non-formal vocational training program for youths (dropped out of school, those who have not been in school, youths affected by early marriages/pregnancies, drug abuse and rehabilitated among others), in the Northern regions and Karamoja for example in the last four years and supported partially through special quotas by local government has enabled skill trained youths have found their way into employment (in district government, NGOs and self-employment). Shine with Skills projects that starting and delivering such skills training in Jinja and beyond will be a new dawn for the majority of Youth especially girls and women who have previously dropped out of school. The core purpose of this project is to improve the capacity of the youth in Jinja and Buikwe Districts and beyond whenever
