Understanding Customer Needs and Expectations
One of the greatest lessons we have learned at AWEC-Africa is that understanding what people need is only the beginning. Meeting their expectations is what builds trust and long-term relationships.
When women join our savings groups, their needs are clear. They want a safe place to save, access to affordable loans, opportunities to grow their businesses, and financial independence.
In our early years, we focused on helping women save towards their yearly goals. At the end of the year, each member received exactly what they had saved.
While we believed we had met their needs, many women were disappointed. Why? Because they also expected to earn interest on their savings.
That experience taught us an important lesson: meeting a need is not always enough if expectations are not understood.
We listened carefully to our members, improved our savings model, strengthened our loan program, and created more value for the women who trust us with their hard-earned money.
Today, women not only save, but they also access business loans, grow their enterprises, and earn returns on their savings. More importantly, they know they are part of a community that listens and responds to their needs.
The results speak for themselves. We have grown from 16 women with UGX 670,000 in savings to 225 women who have collectively saved more than UGX 145 million.
Growth doesn't happen by chance. It happens when you listen, learn, adapt, and consistently put people at the center of everything you do.
At AWEC-Africa, we remain committed to empowering women through financial inclusion, one savings group, one business, and one transformed life at a time.
