All donations gratefully received. The orphanage is run by Kintu and Meteron & currently have 30 children under their care: 16 girls & 14 boys. The children don't go to school as we lack sponsors for fees and we largely depend on local donations for the day to day support of every child - Circa $12 per child, per week
CHALLENGES
for us:
FOOD SHORTAGES. We are always experiencing problem's with food supplies as we currently don’t have our own garden to grow the staples we need. LACK OF MEDICATION & ESSENTIAL ITEMS. We do not have the means to buy any / all medication required & is increasingly difficult to receive government support due to high demand. In the absence of proper sanitary aids many girls have resorted to using old clothes etc making them increasingly uncomfortable within the group
POOR / INADEQUATE CLOTHING. This also includes bedding & beds themselves - bed sheets, mattresses, mosquito nets, blankets. Without most children currently sleep on the floor
LACK OF EDUCATION & SCHOOL RESOURCES. We ourselves cannot provide the level of education required at the orphanage. We also do not have any learning resources available for the children at this time
LACK OF SPORTS ITEMS. We lack almost everything our children need to play - balls, ropes, toys etc. TRANSPORTATION. We currently don't have any mode of transportation and as such providing for the orphanage is all the more difficult
RENT. The dwelling we currently occupy is not our own and have to pay rent. Looking to the future we would love to buy our own piece of land
Our prime objective is to fundraise in order to be able to deal properly with these challenges and to enable the whole operation of the home to become more self-sustaining rather than rely constantly on donations. Secondly it would be a great help to purchase land and build a secure home for the children. Brother Kintu did some research in 2020 showing that we would need about £7000 for the land. Constructing and having their own building wll take away the need for monthly rent and make their day to day more secure. Furthermore this land purchase will allow Brother Kintu and the Children to start planting fruits, vegetables and trees to alleviate the constant food shortages, putting them further on the path of self sustainability.
