We are proud to close this week with Clare Mirembe, our Financial Sustainability Lead - BIC SUSPLAN 🌱✨

Her visit across all our agricultural projects marked not just the end of the week but also a celebration of growth, resilience, and impact.

Even more exciting, our cocoa project has gained strong momentum, now delivering weekly harvests 🍫 This progress reflects the dedication of our teams and the power of sustainable practices in action. Thank you , Segal Family Foundation and EARN for believing and supporting our plans.

Our tree project recorded a good first harvest, and the second is already showing an even bigger potential, a true testament to consistency and care 🌳

Moments like these remind us that when intention meets commitment, transformation happens.

Onwards to more impact, more growth, and more stories of change 🌍

Fun fact: BIC funds over half of it's overhead costs and about 20% of our annual budget through social enterprises. Thanks to our lady boss Clare and her team.

We've expanded, it's a new region prone to floods. The challenge is to manage floods, produce nutritious food and increase household income. Our PHE model is a great fit. In pictures, women, men and their children hold conversations, plan and execute together with our teams. Right from our General Secretary at BIC to the smallest kids in a home, together we planted over 700 bamboo seedlings last week. Several vegetable nursery units were also set up. Thank you for walking with us.

It is a new chapter for 240 homes. Thank you our supporters and partners. Segal Family Foundation EARN

A voice from a Suubi medic as a part of the team work at Suubi Health Center.

“Unfortunately, we continue to face serious challenges related to women delivering under Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs). Most of the cases we receive are late referrals, with many women arriving in extremely critical conditions that are difficult to manage at the facility level.

To date, we have:
• Lost one premature baby
• Received two women in very critical condition, both requiring urgent blood transfusions

These incidents clearly demonstrate the risks associated with delayed access to skilled maternal care”.

The current free delivery program is therefore a vital intervention. It will enable women to access timely, professional medical services, reduce delays caused by financial constraints, and significantly lower the number of severe and overwhelming cases presented at our facilities.

Our partnership with local government and through community outreach strategy is driving access to vaccines.

Financial sustainability: 2 years ago, we started piloting a new venture - cocoa growing, to improve our cashflow from local resources. We have fallen and risen up a couple of times with support from , and most recently . And we are now channeling our learning into scale.

It's not just income but also reducing cost by producing food for our staff feeding strategy. The best part - piloted innovations are diffused into our over 600 model households.

Thank you for walking with us. We can't wait to see how scaling both as an organization and as household will enable us to grow.

ATTENTION‼️There is a planned destruction of our beloved and close-by rock code-named "Suubi Mountain" by Arab Contractors company in conjunction with a few politicians in Luuka district.

Potential damage:
- Suubi ceases to operate due to loud sounds, vibrations, dust leaving thousands of people with no access to our services
- Hundreds of pregnant women, deliveries, premature babies with no access to our vital services.
- A government run EPI program affected, disrupting over 2000 immunizations cases each year.
- Biodiversity disruption and destruction.
- Potential to damage an underground water system with 20,000 liter water capacity and serving hundreds of families.
- etc

There are many alternative rocks where tamarcking materials can be sourced .
We need all supporters, well wishers to join us advocating for a stop on this process and safe health services.
We strongly call upon NEMA to respond to our official outcry and ensure a proper and legal process of accessing and utilizing natural resources including exploring alternatives that don't disrupt existing public good.ug

Here is the Shanti team in blue, white and maroon that is managing our partnership with Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) to provide HIV treatment and Management. This development is after MUWRP trained our senior midwife ( Esther - in a white dress ) who in turn trained the rest of our staff members to provide the services.

Before, Shanti was only testing for HIV and then referred patients to Kasana Hospital. It's good news that we now provide Prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV services including during labor and delivery.

Kudos Shanti team and thank you Edward and Vickey from MUWRP for working with and visiting us in Luwero.
