🐾 EVERY SPAY AND NEUTER IS AN INVESTMENT IN ANIMAL WELFARE

At Bam Animal Clinics, we believe that preventing unwanted litters is one of the most humane ways to address companion-animal welfare challenges in our communities.

Through our Companion Animal Population Management Programme, BAM provides and promotes humane spay and neuter services for dogs and cats while educating owners about responsible breeding, preventing abandonment and providing lifelong care.

Spaying and neutering can help families manage their companion animals responsibly and reduce the number of unwanted puppies and kittens that may otherwise face neglect, abandonment or inadequate care. But the impact goes beyond individual animals—it helps communities move towards more responsible and sustainable companion-animal ownership. 🐶🐱❤️

We are deeply grateful to Project AnimalAidt and Uniquely Paws Limited for supporting BAM with essential equipment and consumables. Their partnership has strengthened our ability to deliver this important work effectively.

17 Years of Serving Animals and Communities

Since 2009, BAM Animal Clinics has been working alongside communities in Uganda to improve animal health and welfare.

From veterinary outreach and working donkey welfare to companion animals, rabies prevention, CPD training and One Health, our journey has always been about one thing: making life better for animals and the people who depend on them.

Despite their importance, many working donkeys continue to experience significant welfare challenges. Common problems include preventable diseases, wounds caused by poorly fitted harnesses, overloading, inadequate nutrition, limited access to clean water, delayed veterinary treatment, and low awareness of good welfare practices among owners. In many rural areas, access to veterinary services remains limited, and working equids often receive less attention than other livestock species, allowing preventable conditions to persist.

Supporting Communities Beyond the Clinic:
At the conclusion of the outreach, participating donkey owners received sisal sacks and other locally available materials to construct humane saddles for their own animals. BAM Animal Clinics' local veterinary personnel and community animal health workers will continue providing follow-up visits to monitor treated animals, support saddle construction, reinforce training messages, and ensure that cases requiring additional treatment receive appropriate ongoing care. This continued engagement helps create lasting improvements in donkey welfare while strengthening community capacity to care for their working animals.

Over 200 Working Donkeys Receive Essential Veterinary Care in Mount Elgon

Our recent community donkey welfare outreach reached more than 200 working donkeys from Kere Village and surrounding communities in the Mount Elgon region. Every animal received a thorough health assessment and appropriate veterinary care based on its individual needs.

Rather than waiting for owners to identify sick animals, the, we conducted active clinical screening throughout the gathering, carefully examining each donkey for wounds, eye diseases, lameness, hoof disorders, poor body condition, skin diseases, parasite infestations, harness injuries, and other health concerns. Any donkey requiring treatment received immediate veterinary attention, while owners were provided with practical advice on disease prevention, nutrition, humane handling, and proper husbandry.

By bringing veterinary services directly into remote communities, we reduce the distance and cost that donkey owners face when seeking professional care. Early diagnosis and treatment not only relieve animal suffering but also help working donkeys remain healthy, productive, and able to continue supporting the livelihoods of the families who depend on them.

This successful outreach reflects Bam Animal Clinics' commitment to improving animal welfare through community-based veterinary services, education, and preventive healthcare.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Animal-Kind International for their continued partnership and support in helping us deliver quality veterinary services to working donkeys and the rural communities of Eastern Uganda.
