All children should be carefree and happy, but street children are at huge risk of exploitation, abuse, forced prostitution, trafficking, forced labour and slavery.

For the past 4 years, www.okoaheroschildministries.org has been working to make sure street children are happy and this has been done by giving them a place they call home, education and care as other children. This has been possible with friends like you who took a heart and donated to this cause. We thank you all for taking that decision and we are happy to let you know that at latest we have united over 50 street children with their families. As of 2026, we still ask you to join us as we continue to push this mission of removing street children on the streets of Iganga and unite them with their families. This cannot be possible without your support or partner.

We are calling upon organisations, people, churches to join our street children project, this project will bring street connected children from from the margins to the centre of government policy, aiming to reduce the number of children becoming street-connected in Uganda as a result of unsafe migration or trafficking, and improve access to rights for those still on the streets

ambassador, spoke to a resolution submitted by the Students Committee on
international student hardship and the need for the RCN to lobby for more
support from universities for this student group. "Many stay, many become leaders, but if we do not support international students now, we risk losing them, "she said.

shape, with each stone laid symbolizing hope.
The new wash and toilet room is coming together-a space that provides not only hygiene but also restores dignity. For the children, this place means more than just clean water and safety; it marks
the beginning of a future where they feel respected and valued

This is a place that shows them they are not forgotten, and that their lives matter. Step by step, we are laying the foundation for
their future-a small but significant step toward a better world.

Street children depend on the streets for their survival – whether they live on the streets, work on the streets, have support networks on the streets, or a combination of the three.

Nobody knows exactly how many street children there are, but each has their own unique story. Their reason for being connected to the streets are many and varied but poverty, displacement due to natural disasters and conflicts, discrimination, abuse or family breakdown can all play a role.

One of the primary steps towards empowering Street Children Program in India is to provide them with shelter and access to education. NGOs, like Okoa government often run shelters and schools dedicated to these children. Street children can find a safe haven in these places, where they receive food, clothing, and education

There are an estimated 100 million homeless children in the world. Many more children, due to family instability, poverty or abuse, spend the majority of their days on the street either working or begging.

Street children are at high risk of verbal, physical and s*xual abuse; girls are highly vulnerable to s*xual assault, s*x trafficking and may resort to commercial s*x work.

Street life poses other risks such as hunger, drug abuse, violence, disease, labor exploitation and police brutality. Worse yet, many street children are viewed with contempt by the public; they are seen as dirty, criminal, and are subject to discrimination.
As okoa hero's child ministries, we believe we can do something together before the situation goes worse as many of these Children turn into criminals

Why children come to the street
Street connected children come from families with a wide range of challenges, including poverty, mental illness, domestic violence, child abuse and addiction.

It is not just family crisis that pushes children onto the streets – war and natural disasters can all trigger a sharp rise in numbers.

There are attractions that pull children, such as the excitement of independence, adventure, money and the bright lights of the city.
