Today, we celebrate the women whose love holds families together, whose sacrifices often go unseen, and whose strength continues to shape our communities every single day.

To every mother, guardian, grandmother, and mother figure out there, thank you for the care, resilience, and hope you pour into the lives around you. Your impact goes far beyond the home. It reaches into communities and generations.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Hashtag Gulu Initiative. 💜

Adrien Genoud of speaking with our agricultural skills learners at the farm in Paicho and inspiring them to stay focused on learning as a pathway to transforming their lives. We are grateful for this collaboration with him and Omoana as an association.

spent two weeks in Uganda, during which he delivered impactful training in forum theatre and improvisation theatre to both our staff members and the young beneficiaries we work with, equipping them to create community-based productions and meaningful social conversations.

Forum theatre goes beyond performance. It actively engages communities to reflect and generate solutions to pressing social issues.

Today in Laliya, the Oguru community experienced this firsthand. Young people we work with delivered a powerful performance before hundreds of residents. The message was clear. Teachers cannot replace the role of parents. Parents must take responsibility for raising their children instead of shifting that duty to schools.

We appreciate for partnering with us and showing up to witness this transformative approach to community engagement. We also thank for partnering with us to implement this creative project.

When was the last time you paused to check in with your emotions at work?

At Hashtag Gulu, we believe serving young people better starts with taking care of ourselves. That is why we intentionally prioritize staff wellness. Through regular team bonding sessions, we create space for our team to reflect, relax, and recharge.

Today, we held our first team bonding session of the year, focused on building awareness around emotional wellness and self-care. The session was facilitated by Peter Obonyo, a clinical psychologist. It was a powerful day filled with games, reflective exercises, and honest conversations that sparked joy, self-reflection, and deeper connection.

One key takeaway stood out. Start your day with an emotional check-in. It helps you stay aware and prevents unnecessary reactions. Also, find a self-care buddy. Someone you trust at work or at home who can support you emotionally.

These simple practices go a long way. By the end of the session, we felt lighter, more connected, and ready to take on April with renewed energy.

Because when we take care of ourselves, we show up better for the young people we serve.

This week, together with Ability Sports Africa, we explored how sports can change lives .

Through a 5-day Sports for Development training facilitated by Youth Sport Uganda - YSU, our teams learned how simple games can create safe spaces, build confidence, and support children and young people to grow.

We saw how sport can go beyond play. It can help prevent violence, promote inclusion, and give young people a positive path.

We are excited to start using these approaches in our sessions and make our work even more engaging and impactful.

Because sometimes, all it takes is a game to start a transformation.

Today, we spent the better part of the day with over 50 juveniles at Gulu Remand Home—singing, dancing, acting, eating, and most importantly, having fun. Because really, what’s a Christmas party without joy?

These are our children. Some come from families, others from the streets. Sadly, some parents still believe that locking up a child is the best way to teach them a lesson. For many of these young people, this will be yet another Christmas spent in detention.

We were glad to be joined by our partners and for this heartwarming day, crowned by an electrifying performance from none other than Urban N***a Kamuzu, who had everyone on their feet!

Yesterday, we spent the better part of the day at Red Mazzle Farm in Ogwolo, Katine Sub-county, Soroti District.

We went there to learn:
1. Commercial pig farming.
2. Systems.
3. Numbers.
4. What works and what fails.

For us as a nonprofit running a farm, this visit mattered. We are intentionally turning our farm into a social enterprise while still hosting our charity work and skills training for young people. Red Mazzle offered a practical example of how that balance can work. We are already farming. Now we want to farm better.

We left with clear ideas on housing, feeding, breeding cycles, record keeping, and market planning. These are lessons we can apply immediately as we grow.

This is the direction we are taking:
1. Learning from those doing it well.
2. Building sustainable models.
3. Creating impact that lasts beyond donor cycles.

Grateful for the openness and knowledge shared.
Onward and upward.
