RICNET a not for profit organizations working in the Rwenzori region on capacity building of smallholder farmers to access sustainable markets for their food produce, Democratic Governance, Digital inclusion and peaceful coexistence. The organization operates in Uganda but with bulk of the programs in the Rwenzori region. RIC-NET is a community owned information sharing Network.

Rwenzori Information Centres Network (RIC-NET), established in 2005 by NGOs in Rwenzori region, duly registered as local NGO (S. 5914/11258), is an independent, non-partisan, network of information and e-society centres empowering and enabling the youth and grassroots communities to overcome poverty, social exclusion and providing a platform for collective reflection, action and voice in Rwenzori region-Uganda. The network membership consists of 15 Information centres/e-society centres from Kasese, Kabarole, Ntoroko, Bundibugyo, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa Districts.
The organisation is an active member and partner to several regional / National NGOs Networks such as: RWECO, CEW-IT, DENIVA, Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF), The Humanitarian platform for NGOs in Uganda, Agro-profocus, U-report and Plantwise Uganda.
RIC-NET cherishes a holistic approach to development and recognizes the provision of reliable, timely and relevant information as an essential element to the transformation people’s productivity, social, political and economic spheres.
RIC-NET uses a combination of online tools, information centres, community radios and local meetings, sms polls, civic education, and in-person organizing to help villages indentify critical issues, gather the necessary data or evidence to support specific claims, build support for policy goals through CSOs alliances, and develop and carry out action plans that purposely involve community members in the change campaign. Technology strengthens credibility by helping organisations inform, organize and mobilize citizens effectively and efficiently; facilitate grassroots evidence generation for advocacy without putting citizens at risk, and amplify citizens’ voice.

Objectives
1. To converge various information and knowledge sharing models, unlocking people’s potentials to empower, engage, amplify their voice for good governance, better service delivery and eradicate poverty.
2. To promote alternatives to secure the right to better and sustainable livelihood for the youth, ethnic minorities, socially excluded and vulnerable children and women.
3. To advance the dignity vulnerable children, ending violence against children and adolescents, and grieving with and seeking justice, and restoration for those who have experienced it.
4. To enhance appropriation of ICT and media to mobilise, empower and support the creation of new culturally responsive learning platforms or resources and environment for wealth creation and civic engagement.
5. To support women, men, youth, communities and NGOs at grassroots, Districts and regional level with information to build resilience, engage public officials and institutions to respect civil liberties and be accountable for provision of quality and timely social and judicial services.
Thematic Areas
Community Empowerment and Youth (CEY): unlocking potential: supporting education of conflict affected girls, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), and tailor-made vocational training and apprenticeship; preventive health: Better Nutrition, Access to water, Sanitation & Waste management, immunization, prevention of transmission of HIV & Malaria; Child protection: Better parenting and prevention of Violence against children and adolescents (VAC); Economic empowerment :VSLA geared at improving households’ income; Knowledge sharing: Farmers clinic and agro info-skills sharing.
Social Inclusion and Rights (SIR): voicing the Silence: amplify voices of the socially excluded persons and the sexual minorities to assert, demand and realize their human rights. Community sensitization: create awareness of the plight and peculiarities of minorities so that the wide community can defend their rights and dignity. Empowerment: Build socially excluded and minorities’ capacity to generate wealth and reduce their poverty-exacerbated vulnerability.
Technology for Accountability and Development (TAD): Customized software: designing and deployment of different platforms that allows citizens to engage with their leaders without putting themselves at risk; design public platforms to enable information documentation and sharing, and amplify citizens’ voice on human rights, good governance, accountability and service delivery. CSOs Capacity building: Training CSOs and civil servants to use ICT for platforms and social media appropriately.
Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CAM): sensitize citizens on dangers of climate change and climate-resilient pathways: adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development projects.
Action Research and Advocacy (ARA): Building an information society by facilitating access to reliable, timely and relevant information and skills in the field of Education, Agriculture, Health, Finance and commerce, Social and Community development, Human rights and Governance. Advocate for the use of information for poverty eradication at all levels.
RIC-NET access and share information to the community through 80 Community Process Facilitators (CPF) and 800 community monitors based in 80 sub counties of Rwenzori region.
