Often in our communities, menstruation is seen as a women’s issue. Father involvement is considered taboo, and very few or sometimes no fathers openly discuss menstruation with their daughters. In many families, this limits girls’ access to menstrual products, especially where mothers depend on male income for household support.

This Menstrual Health Awareness Month, we call for greater involvement of fathers in the lives of their daughters. Fathers need to understand the challenges girls face without menstrual support and open communication. When fathers are informed, supportive, and involved, girls are more likely to stay in school, access menstrual products, and grow with confidence and dignity.

Ending period stigma starts at home.

May marks Menstrual Health Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the vital role that menstrual health and hygiene management play in girls’ education.

This month, we reaffirm our commitment to:

Promoting access to safe and affordable menstrual products

Educating girls and sparking conversations about menstrual hygiene management

Challenging harmful myths and cultural stereotypes surrounding menstruation

On Labour Day 2026, we reflect that many women and girls continue to carry the burden of unpaid or underpaid work not because they lack strength, but because they lack opportunities.

Education can change this. When we invest in girls’ education, we give them the power to earn, to choose, and to live with dignity.

This Labour Day, let us commit to sponsoring a girl’s education, shaping her journey and ensuring she completes school, because an educated girl is empowered to transform lives.

As the school term comes to an end and girls go on holiday, we also pause our in-school program, which provides girls with a safe space where they can learn, grow, and build confidence.

During the holiday, we encourage each girl to remember that she belongs in school. Let her be our voice in the community by standing strong, sharing what she learned in the program, and inspiring other girls to return to school next term.

Did you know that when a girl gains strong foundational literacy skills, she is less likely to repeat classes or drop out of school?

Starting early with storybooks is one effective way to build her reading skills, confidence, and love for learning, helping her stay and succeed in school.

We sincerely appreciate the team from ASHWA for facilitating a meaningful session on sexual and reproductive health for out-of-school adolescent girls in our community. These sessions align closely with our goal of ending early marriages and reducing teenage pregnancies, empowering girls with knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their futures.

Every session with girls in their respective clubs counts. It brings joy a chance to learn how to speak out, express their opinions, and think critically. Every activity builds a girl's confidence and reminds her how valuable she is.

A sanitary pad in every girl’s hands means more days in school, the freedom to walk, play, participate fully in sports and the dignity.

But this conversation doesn’t belong to girls alone.

We intentionally included boys in our training to break the cultural belief that menstruation is only a girls issue.

When boys understand, stigma reduces. When stigma reduces, girls thrive.

We are happy to introduce a literacy program to Buwumba Primary School. When children cannot read, they tend to drop out of school, and this disproportionately affects girls. To bridge the gap we make reading books accessible for both boys and girls in schools and the community.

Many children learn to read through storybooks, develop a love for reading and get empowered from what they read. To help both girls and boys have access to a book to improve their reading and stay in school.
