For some families in our community, the Christmas season passes quietly ,without enough food, without basic home items, and without the simple comforts many take for granted. Teenage mothers, young girls, and women living with disabilities often face Christmas as just another day of survival.
Last year, AFLU reached out with essential support. This Christmas, we hope to reach even more families with food, basic home items, baby essentials etc
Christmas is about love, presence, and kindness. Together, we can make this season warmer for a mother and her child.

This year, the national AIDS commemoration will be held in Kizinda — a community known for its vibrant nightlife, with hundreds of bars that attract illicit trades and high-risk activities. This same town has become a refuge for out-of-school girls seeking work, many of whom end up in exploitative bar jobs or transactional s*x

Access for Life Uganda was born to change this. We work to protect young women, giving them safe alternatives, guidance, and opportunities to build a healthier and safer future. Every girl deserves a life free from danger and full of hope.

AFLU is launching a new initiative called The Better Men Club to help build a safer Kizinda for young women. Many of the challenges our girls face,especially transactional s*x and exploitation are linked to men who are also struggling with addiction, hopelessness, and lack of guidance.

To reduce transactional s*x and protect young women, we must also invest in the wellbeing and mindset of our young men. This initiative will create a space for men to learn responsibility, respect, and healthier choices, directly supporting AFLU’s mission of safety and dignity for girls.

Who We Are and What We Do
Access for Life Uganda (AFLU) is a youth-led, community-based nonprofit in Kizinda, Bushenyi District, working with marginalized adolescent girls and young mothers who face poverty, stigma, and limited opportunities. Many of them dropped out of school due to early pregnancies or lack of financial support, and often survive through low-paying or exploitative work.
We exist to restore dignity, create second chances, and unlock independence for these young women.

Our Vision
A Kizinda where every young woman is equipped with the tools, skills, and opportunities to prosper, free from marginalization, exploitation, and poverty.

How We Do It
1. Sustainable Capital Growth Model (SCGM)

AFLU invests directly in women’s micro and small businesses.

We provide capital injections, business mentorship, and financial literacy training.

Through a shared-value system, beneficiaries grow their businesses while AFLU sustains itself through small returns, making the model self-reliant and sustainable.

2. Community Mothers Business Club (CMBC)

A safe learning and working space for young mothers to gain vocational and practical skills (tailoring, catering, product-making, hairdressing, etc.).

Encourages group saving, peer-to-peer support, and cooperative growth.

3. Mama’s Safe Space

A healing and counseling space for victims of abuse, domestic violence, and exploitation.

Offers emotional support, emergency linkages to police and protection services, and mentorship to rebuild self-worth.

4. On-the-Job Empowerment
We meet young women where they are — in pubs, restaurants, and small workplaces — to provide mentorship, mindset change, and confidence-building sessions while they continue earning.

Our Belief
At AFLU, we believe that independence begins with the ability to choose your own path. When poverty, fear, or exploitation makes the choices for her, that is not independence. We exist to change that.

AFLU: Sustainable Capital Growth Model (SCGM)

AFLU provides small, targeted capital to young women to start or grow feasible businesses. We pair this investment with training, mentorship, and continuous monitoring to ensure the business succeeds.

As the businesses grow, women repay the initial investment to AFLU. These repayments are then reinvested into new women’s businesses, creating a sustainable cycle of income, empowerment, and growth.

This is how SCGM ensures impact that multiplies — one successful woman helps another rise.
