Meet the women behind the change. 💙
These are the dedicated women mentors of Access for Life Uganda serving in rural Kizinda, Bushenyi. They are trusted members of the community who volunteer their time to support vulnerable adolescent girls and young mothers with accurate information, encouragement, and practical guidance.
Many girls in our community grow up without access to reliable reproductive health information. As a result, they face challenges such as teenage pregnancy, school dropout, early marriage, s*xual exploitation, and stigma. Our mentors are helping change that.
They provide safe spaces where girls can ask questions without fear or shame. They educate them about menstruation, healthy relationships, reproductive health, consent, and how to make informed decisions about their future. They also encourage girls to stay in school where possible, seek medical care when needed, report abuse, and know that they are not alone.
Beyond education, these women listen, support, advocate, and connect young girls and mothers to the services they need. They are trusted role models who are helping build a generation of confident, informed, and empowered young women.
We believe every girl deserves the knowledge, support, and opportunity to build a better future.

Behind Kizinda’s busy nightlife is a reproductive health crisis that needs attention.

Kizinda is a growing trading centre with hundreds of bars and entertainment spots that attract people from different communities. For many young women and girls, these spaces have become places where they seek survival opportunities due to poverty, limited education, and lack of alternative livelihoods.

However, this vulnerability comes with serious reproductive health challenges. Many young women involved in transactional s*x face increased risks of unintended pregnancies, HIV and other s*xually transmitted infections, unsafe decisions due to lack of information, and limited access to essential health services.

Some girls and women have never received proper education about their bodies, menstrual health, family planning, pregnancy prevention, or where to seek help. Others experience stigma, s*xual exploitation, gender-based violence, and isolation.

These challenges are not just health issues — they affect education, economic independence, families, and the future of the entire community.

Through the MAMA (Mothers Advancing Maternal & Adolescent Health) Program, Access for Life Uganda (AFLU) is working to bring reproductive health education, mentorship, counselling, and referrals closer to vulnerable women, girls, and young mothers in Kizinda.

But the need is bigger than one organization.

We are calling on partners, health professionals, community leaders, and well-wishers to join us in creating a Kizinda where every girl and woman has access to accurate information, support, and the opportunity to make informed decisions about her health and future.

MAMA PROGRAM OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED IN KIZINDA! 🎉
Access for Life Uganda (AFLU) is proud to announce the successful launch of the MAMA Program (Mothers Advancing Maternal and Adolescent Health) in Kizinda.
The MAMA Program is a community-led initiative that builds on the wisdom and experience of trusted women in our communities. Through specialized training in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), these women become MAMA Health Champions who will educate, mentor, support, and guide adolescent girls and young mothers while linking them to essential health services.
Our first training brought together 18 dedicated MAMA Health Champions from 8 villages across two parishes in Kizinda. All participants completed the training and signed commitment letters to serve their communities.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our donors, supporters, partners, facilitators, local leaders, and community members whose generosity, encouragement, and belief in our vision made this possible.
This is only the first step. Going forward, MAMA Champions will conduct community dialogues, mentorship sessions, home visits, referrals, and awareness activities aimed at improving menstrual health, maternal health, adolescent health, family planning awareness, and overall wellbeing.
We still have more villages to reach and many more girls and young mothers to support.

Teenage girls in Kizinda are not choosing this life.
They are trying to survive it.
That’s why our work goes beyond just awareness.
At AFLU, we support teenage girls and young mothers with:

Because real empowerment is giving a girl both knowledge and options.
