Education changes lives, but it doesn’t happen in isolation.

At Action in Africa, we elevate women and girls through scholarships, mentorship, nutritious meals, access to clean water, and leadership opportunities. By addressing the challenges that keep families trapped in poverty, we’re helping women and girls build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

“I’ve always wanted my daughter to be part of this program, and now I truly understand why.” — Agnes Nalumu, mother of Timera Maria Nalukwago

Agnes recently witnessed firsthand the joy that our After School Program brings her child. From dance, music, and art to learning piano, guitar, and keyboard, her daughter comes home inspired, sometimes even with handmade bangles to show for it.

Beyond the creativity, it’s the care that stands out. Knowing her child receives a warm, nutritious meal each day brings peace of mind.

“Thank you for taking such good care of our children. The work you are doing is truly wonderful.”

This month at Action in Africa, we’re focusing on nutrition and the vital role it plays in helping children, families, and communities thrive.

Throughout June, we’ll share stories from our work in Uganda and highlight how access to nutritious food supports learning, growth, health, and long-term well-being.

Because children learn best when their bodies are nourished, and strong communities are built on healthy foundations.
Follow us this June as we raise awareness about nutrition and advocate for a future where every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and reach their full potential.

At Action in Africa’s recent men's workshop in Nakuwadde, fathers, husbands, and community leaders came together for honest conversations about mental health, fatherhood, stress, grief, work-life balance, and the pressure men often carry in silence.

The result is Men to Men: A How-to Guide for Living Well, Leading Well, a practical resource created from real stories and real experiences shared in that room.
Because when men are healthy, supported, and emotionally present, their families and children grow stronger.

From nearly dropping out of school to becoming a Clinical Officer, Courage Mugisha’s journey reflects the power of opportunity and education.
Supported by Action in Africa from primary school through university, Courage graduated in 2023 with a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health and now serves his community through healthcare.

“I got an opportunity from Action in Africa, a miracle which I received at the right time of struggle.”

Menstruation is far more than a biological milestone; for nearly one in four girls, it becomes the unintended finish line of their education.
At Action in Africa, we are working to change that reality.
On May 16, 188 women and girls gathered at our Sentema Campus in Nakinyoola Village for a Menstrual Health Training and AFRIpads distribution led by Irene Kemigisa from AFRIpads. What began in silence became a space filled with learning, confidence, and open conversation.
By providing menstrual health education and reusable sanitary products, we are helping girls stay in school, reclaim their dignity, and live without shame.
Thank you to our partners, donors, and the resilient women of Sentema for making this possible.

Real conversations. Real healing.
In Uganda, our mental health workshops are creating space for people to be seen, heard, and supported, from students and teachers to parents and caregivers.
“I realized today that discipline does not mean pain. It means teaching.”
“Today is the first time I cried without shame.”
From navigating stress and parenting to rebuilding trust and processing grief, these sessions are helping individuals turn awareness into action while strengthening families and communities along the way.
Because healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens together.

Africa Day 2026 reminds us that progress flows through something as basic—and as powerful—as water.
This year’s theme, “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” speaks to the Africa we are building: one of dignity, health, and opportunity for all.
A prosperous Africa begins with healthy communities.

An integrated continent grows from strong, supported communities.

Good governance protects basic human needs.

Peace and security are rooted in stability and wellbeing.

Our cultural identity lives in the dignity of our people.

People-driven development is realized when youth and women are empowered.

And Africa’s global voice grows when we invest in our own.
This Africa Day, Action in Africa reaffirms its commitment to community-led solutions that improve access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare.
Clean water is not just a resource.

It is the foundation for the Africa we believe in.
