Kajo Keji Health Training Institute

Kajo Keji Health Training Institute Temporarily re-located to and operating in Arua, Uganda. As the youngest country in the world, South Sudan faces great challenges in health care delivery.

Kajo Keji Health Training Institute trains high caliber health care professionals and offers preventative and curative healthcare to communities in South Sudan. The under-five mortality rate is 135.3 per 1,000, the highest in the region, and the maternal mortality rate is the highest in the world at 2,054 per 100,000 live births. Communicable diseases including malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS constitute

a major health problem. Additionally, most neglected tropical diseases are endemic (South South accounts for 90% of the global guinea worm disease burden). Founder, Lou Louis Koboji, saw that one of the largest barriers to health care in South Sudan is the severe shortage of health care professionals - a ratio of less than 0.19 to the recommended WHO of 2.32. It will take on average 5 years for a rural patient to see a qualified healthcare worker. To fulfill our mission of improving health care in South Sudan, the Kajo Keji Health Training Institute (KKHTI) is dedicated to the following:

1. Training: KKHTI trains students with a 3 year medical education, in-classroom and practicals, preparing students to work and save lives throughout South Sudan.
2. Prevention and Treatment: KKHTI provides health education and services to the public, as well as focusing on Maternal and Child health.
3. Community-based health education and services: KKHTI conducts health education in primary and secondary schools.
4. Consultancy and health policy formulation: KKHTI participates in South Sudan's national curriculum development for health workers.

*Due to the conflict and recent violence in South Sudan, KKHTI has temporarily re-located to Arua, Uganda. Our students, now refugees in Uganda, will continue their training and participate in outreach programs to local refugee camps.
