73rd Parliament Leadership Engages Top NRM Officials on Promoting Vision 2040 and "Mosevenomics" in West Nile

Today, the leadership of the 73rd Parliament Charity Organization, under the guidance and support of our esteemed Ambassador, Hon. Atima Jackson Lee Buti, Member of Parliament for Arua Central Division, had the honor of meeting with the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Richard Awany Todwong, at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala.

During the engagement, the delegation discussed a wide range of critical issues pertaining to the strengthening of the NRM party structures in Arua Central and across the West Nile sub-region. Central to the discussion was the promotion of the "Mosevenomics" ideologyโ€”rooted in wealth creation, household transformation, and socio-economic empowermentโ€”as a cornerstone for achieving the national development agenda.

As a gesture of gratitude, the 73rd Parliament presented a customized pull-up banner to the Secretary General in recognition of his unwavering commitment to the NRMโ€™s mission and his pivotal role in building a modern and prosperous Uganda, as envisioned in Vision 2040. The banner symbolizes our appreciation for his leadership in empowering local communities and advancing steady, inclusive progress nationwide.

The delegation also had a fruitful meeting with Hajat Madina Naham, Director of Finance and Administration at the NRM Secretariat. We extended our appreciation to her for her exemplary leadership, professionalism, and tireless efforts in promoting accountability, institutional stability, and financial stewardship within the party. Her work continues to play a vital role in realizing the Vision 2040 agenda.

These engagements marked a significant step forward in deepening collaboration between the grassroots youth movements and national leadership, ensuring that the values of patriotism, service, and transformation remain central to Ugandaโ€™s political and socio-economic development.

For God and Our Country.

Today, I had the honor of presenting a paper on "The Role of Youth in Combating Non-Discrimination, Hate Speech, and Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism" during the Workshop on Youth Empowerment for Peace, Civic Engagement, and Inclusive Society at Eureka Place Hotel, Kampala.

Key Points from my Presentation

The youth are instrumental in fostering peace and combating discrimination, hate speech, and violent extremism (P/CVE). Hereโ€™s how they can lead this transformative effort:

1. Promoting Awareness and Education

Advocacy Campaigns: Youth-led initiatives can highlight the dangers of hate speech, discrimination, and extremism.

Peer Education: Young people can engage peers in workshops and social media campaigns to encourage inclusivity and tolerance.

Community Dialogues: Facilitating interfaith and intercultural dialogues to dispel stereotypes and foster mutual understanding.

2. Leveraging Technology and Media

Social Media Advocacy: Using online platforms to counter hate speech with positive, peace-promoting narratives.

Digital Literacy: Teaching responsible media use to prevent the spread of misinformation and hate.

3. Engaging in Policy Advocacy

Youth Representation: Actively participating in policymaking processes to ensure youth voices are heard.

Campaigning for Laws: Advocating for robust legislation against hate speech and discrimination while protecting human rights.

4. Creating Safe Spaces for Dialogue

Youth Forums: Platforms where youth can share experiences, ideas, and solutions.

Support Networks: Building support systems for individuals affected by hate speech or radicalization.

5. Promoting Economic and Social Empowerment

Skill Development: Offering vocational training to reduce vulnerability to extremist recruitment.

Community Service: Engaging in projects that promote unity and resilience.

6. Modeling Positive Behavior

Role Models: Youth leaders setting examples of inclusion and tolerance.

Challenging Norms: Confronting discriminatory practices and hate speech within their communities.

7. Building Partnerships and Collaboration

Networking: Partnering with civil society, government, and international organizations to amplify efforts.

Mentorship: Collaborating with experienced leaders for guidance in peacebuilding initiatives.

Conclusion

Youth are powerful agents of change. By equipping them with the necessary tools, education, and platforms, we can empower them to champion non-discrimination, counter hate speech, and prevent violent extremism, thereby building a peaceful, inclusive society.

Namunyole Amisa, a passionate advocate for the Ghetto youth, is representing their voices during our Regional Parliaments. Our mission, as the West Nile Youth Empowerment Centre (WYEC) and the 73rd Parliament, goes beyond just advocacy. We are committed to continually providing platforms that enable young people in Arua and the broader West Nile region to express the challenges they face. Through these initiatives, we strive to foster an environment where young people are not just heard but are empowered to meaningfully engage in decision-making processes. By amplifying their voices, we aim to build a generation of informed, active, and capable youth who contribute to shaping policies that affect their lives and communities. Our ultimate goal is to create lasting change by ensuring that the youth play an integral role in the development and governance of their region and country.

Monday Motivation: Lead with Purpose, Not Provocation

As a leader, your words carry immense power. Don't make the mistake of talking or writing unnecessarily, just to stir up emotions or provoke others. Instead, focus on clarity, purpose, and inspiration. The strongest leaders speak with intention, lifting people up rather than pulling them down. Your role is to guide, not to create confusion or tension. So, today, choose your words wisely and use them to build bridges, foster unity, and lead by example. Let your communication be a reflection of the leader you aspire to be!
