JONGLEI GOVERNMENT PARTNERS WITH UNOCHA AND NGOS TO ACCELERATE RELIEF EFFORTS
The Governor of Jonglei State, H.E Dr Riek G*i Kok, has affirmed the state governmentโs commitment to collaborating with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other humanitarian response agencies, Finn Church Aid and NGOs Forum to ensure expedited assistance to distressed individuals within the state.
Gov. Riek G*i convened a strategic meeting with representatives from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), Finn Church Aid, and the South Sudan NGOs Forum to reinforce humanitarian access and food delivery efforts across Jonglei State.
The delegation was led by Mr. David Carden, Head of UNOCHA South Sudan, whose leadership and commitment were warmly appreciated by the Governor.
โWe will make our position clear: food must reach the people who need it most,โ said Governor Kok. โI appeal to our partners to ensure that aid distribution is equitable and inclusive of all impacted areas.โ
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Carden emphasized the importance of collaboration between humanitarian actors and the State Government.
โOur partners are essential to this mission. With the support of the State Government, we can strengthen our collaboration and ensure continued delivery of food and services to the people of Jonglei. This partnership is vital for improving lives and restoring hope,โ he stated.
He, however, applauded the new administration of Gov. Dr. Riek G*i Kok for prioritising the humanitarian needs of the citizens, especially as the state is faced with problems that need serious intervention.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches vulnerable communities, especially in hard-to-access areas affected by flooding and displacement.
