Congratulations to Lt. Gen. John Both Teny Marjal on his appointment as Acting Chief of General Staff of the SPLA-IO replacing Lt. Gen. Peter Thok Chuol, who has been discharged to seek medical treatment.

Since 2015, Gen. Both have served as Director of Finance and Administration at the SPLM/SPLA-IO GHQs. He has also served as Commander of Sector One since 2021, and prior to this appointment, he was Deputy Chief of General Staff for Administration and Finance of the SPLA-IO forces.

He is a respected commander, revolutionary, and disciplined soldier who passionately upholds the noble cause of the liberation struggle. The SPLM/SPLA-IO fraternity wishes him success. He is expected to boost morale and reorganize the SPLA-IO’s response to the ongoing military offensives by the SPLM-IG/SSPDF, which are being carried out in disregard of the spirit and letter of the R-ARCSS.

The release of Dr. Riek Machar is essential to move the country forward. The team was led by Hon. Joseph Malwal D**g, focal person of SPLM-IO political bureau and chairperson of standing committee for foreign relations, the hardliners of the Luak should know that, we need peace and stability in South Sudan to end the ongoing crisis.
